I didn't see anyone else pointing this out:

The moral of this story is that well prepared candidates who can demonstrate what the learning objectives expect them to do will pass.

i wonder if the same moral applies to cas exams.

For online course 2, at least, I'd bet at least 90% of the people taking the exam had previously passed old exam 5, which made up 13 of the 16 lessons. They've already demonstrated mastery of the material, so demonstrating familiarity should have been a cakewalk. A good chunk of these people probably sat for old exam 6 too, so the accounting module wasn't new material either, combining for 14 of the 16 total lessons. Some of these folks had sat for old exam 7 too, meaning that all 16 lessons were covered. Going forward, most of this material will be new for future candidates.

This still doesn't explain why the online course 1 folks would have had the same sort of results though.

I would guess that there is a significant overlap between the 173 people who took course 1 and the 167 who took 5A, which would have made course 1 a second attempt at the material for those folks.
