There's been a big slow down in the number of poker threads lately. Is everyone losing their shirt or just quit playing?
I, personally, have been playing a lot less, only playing in one multi-table every week or so. The last one at Party went pretty well, finished 29 outta 1000+, $30 buy-in, and won about $220. Not that great, considering I played for 5 hours. 1st place was over $6k which I was shooting for, but I hit two miserable beats, against small stacks going all in, that knocked me down significantly.
I'll post them if I can round them up.
But, just curious, why the slow down in poker talk?

I still have not opened a money account, partially due to my computer being 6 years old (slows down if online over 1 hr). I do enjoy watching NL online tournaments or high limit hold 'em tables -- a great way for me to keep learning. Need to learn more about Omaha and Stud for future "friendly" games.
Bama Gambler is on his cruise this week. He and expunge generally keep up the poker threads. Half that team is gone though...

Nice work on the multi. PM me your PartyPoker name and I will look for you.
I've been playing regularly, but taking a few beatings (down $430) in 10 day period since my big win a couple weeks ago. Finally turned thing around with $100+ Tuesday playing NL ring game and $200+ playing $3/6 limit ring game. Confidence is back up, for now.
I imagine as May approaches, the chatter will lesson (or at least people's playing time). I'm just glad I discovered online poker after finishing exams, or I don't think I would have passed another one.

I am still playing 4 or 5 times a week. I play mostly the $5 one table, but have played a few 2 table, and 1 $10 table. I play on PokerStars. After finishing first on the $10 table, I had doubled my initial investment, and cashed out half my account. I am awaiting the check. Has anyone had any experience with cashing out? How long does it take for the check to arrive?
Last night I was not getting good cards. I fought my way back in with mediocre cards, but I was 5th out of 5 in chip count. I went all in on a pair of sevens after the flop, and won a small pot. Two hands later I had AK, so I went all in again. I was called, the guy had A7, and the river card turned up 7. Oh well.
That was a frustrating night in several ways. Once with $20 blind I had Q 10, and while trying to shut down a pop-up, accidentally folded. The flop came Q 10 x. I would have won.
Anyone know how to stop pop-ups when you don't have a browser loaded? IE automatically loads, and I have the google pop-up blocker, but it isn't working on these.

i've actually slowed my play quite a bit recently, took a beating a few weaks ago with a run of junk cards, made most of it back in a couple of good cards. I qualified for round 2 of the party cruise. The offer additional starting chips based on number of raked hands (2000 extra max (which would be 3000 total) and number of first place finishes in single tables. So i've been playing a ring games building up the raked hands. I figure its going to be much easier to win a 1:50 trip to the cruise by starting with 3000 vs 1000 chips, especially when most others will also start with 3000.

I have an additional 1,400 starting chips, but am trying to figure out how it works. Win a $25 single table to get entered in the 6th semi-final played February 6th. Then what happens if you place during the semi-final?

I've been playing .25/.50 and .50/1.00 limit hold'em at UltimateBet pretty frequently over the past few weeks. I also have been entering the $5 multi-tables. My winnings at the ring games have basically been funding my "tuition" in the multi tables, with a little left over to pad my modest bankroll.

Okay, I will talk!!! Actually I had a rather depressing tournament last night. If I remember correctly there were 768 entrants or so, 60 got paid, and I placed 66th after 4 hours and got no money. (was a 20/2 No Limit HoldEm tourney on PartyPoker)
After two hours or so, I had the 5th highest chip count (about 11K), and dealt JJ on the button, 3 callers ahead of me, so I decided to kick some out and raised to 7x BB (1K), a guy with 2K total goes all in. What would you do? I decided he had a decent hand, not necessarily a great hand, and was trying to double or buy my 1K, so I called... JJ vs QQ, neither helped, I lose...
A little later I have 9.5K in the BB and get dealt KQs, and a guy with 1K goes all in, everyone else folds (it's another 700 to call), so I go for it, and he/she has AKs, not good! and I lose that too...
Get dealt JJ in early position now with about 8K in chips, make a 3x BB raise, and yet again, a guy with 1.5 K goes all in, so I call, and he has KK, no help for either of us, I lose.
So now I have 5.5K in chips, get dealt JJ AGAIN (getting tired of this hand by now), and decided to limp in, the BB goes all in for 2K, another player calls all in for 200 more, and I decided to chance it for that much money, and the original raiser has AQs, and the caller has KK...I lost again, shock....
...a bit later (blinds are now 400, 800), I have 2200 in chips, and get dealt 44 in the small blind, everyone folds before me, I push all my chips in to buy the BB, and get called by the BB with AKs, and the flop is QQK - I'm gone...
I did have my share of hands, just not in the last hour, I question whether or not I should have called with JJ all those times, but every time they were short stacked, so I thought that justified a call. Thoughts? I had considered just folding and trying to make the money, but that might not have worked either, I could only have made it two more rounds, and if I had done that, I would have had virtually no chance of getting anywhere past 60th, so I decided to "play for 1st, not the money", and tried to double up at the end...actually I tried to steal, with the chance to double up when he called...

For me it's because I've been hanging out at a poker forum. I posted a link a few days ago, here it is again:

Seems to me that you played those starters right. It was just the wrong tiome to get those hands. I am sure I would have played it in a similar manner.
I have a question about the poker cruise via party poker. I assume this is the ebtry that pops up under the party poker million tab. It appears to me that for around $25, we could win an entry into a semifinal. That's great, but how do I know when the semifinal is and how many from the semis will make it to the cruise?

depends on your table image and that of your opponents who are going all in on you. the raise to 7x was a little too high in my opinion in the first listed hand a pot raise (4.5x) would be enough, and would prolly allow you to get out of a hand like that.
I don't mind the calling 700 on the KQs pays in the neighborhood of 2:1, you don't get good enough odds against AK, AQ, AA, KK, QQ.
The JJ vs two opponents was just a gamble. I prolly get out of the hand.
AK and AQ vs JJ = 44%
AK and 99 vs JJ = 44%
AK and QQ vs JJ = 18%
Not enough ROI to make these calls.
Your needed ROI depends on your amount of chips to the average stack. and the amount that you have to wager. As a chip leader you can take chances with small edges against small stacks, as you get more towards average you need to wait for better ROI. when you start falling below the average you switch back to just taking some chances at doubling up.

Sounds like my weekend.
I lost $25 in a pot limit ring game on two hands. One was AK suited)diamonds), with the flop comming As8hKh. There were 3 others in, and it goes check, check, small bet, then me. I bet the pot to make sure nobody stays in to catch the flush. Two fold and the orginal better calls. Turn comes 9s, so I think I am safe. After the other player checks, I bet half the pot. He calls. River comes 6d. I think, no way he has a straight so I bet. He re-raises. I call he shows the straight 6-10. What the heck was he doing in that game? I also lost a large pot after betting preflop on KK (there were several callers before my turn to act). Only one other person stayed in and beat me by with a Q8. The second Queen came on the flop and the third Queen came on the turn. Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also lost $30+3 in a one table tourni after being disconnected with only 4 players left. I hate my ISP!!!!

The only poker talk that matters is the invasion of the WSOP by the AO. All else is just fluff.

If I have to take a second mortgage on my house, as God as my witness, I am playing in next year's main event. But I guess you said "qualifiers".
The better question is the over/under on how much money the 4 of them combined will bring home this year (from the ME, not from cash games and such). I don't care to set that line, as I don't want to offend anyone. BUT, the EV(average player) = $10,000 * .94 = $9,400. So for 4 people, the EV would be $37,600.
