I'm thinking about signing up for one before my next exam in May, but I just took an exam, so I don't want to start studying yet. Would it be feasible to do it in Jan and take the exam in Feb?
I have no clue what these online courses are like. Could anyone share their experience?
What do I need to do? I heard there are online quizes, can I take these as many times as I want? Do I need a certian score to pass?
also what course materials should I buy? any hints?
Thanks!

You can study this within a month and pass. You need to register for the exam on the institute's website and that will give you access to the material. The quiz are only for practice. The real test need to be in a prometric center. Once you are register with the institute, they will provide you with a candidate ID. You will need it for the prometric appointment. You will select whichever date you like within the testing window

I agree that a month should be sufficient, especially if you have already sat for Old Exam 5. Much of the material from old 5 is on C2. I studied for C2 for only 4 weeks and passed easily.
Re: course materials... I purchased the books and the course guide. The books have the same material as the online lessons. Personally, I prefer learning from books, so after a while I stopped doing the online lessons altogether and just used the books. I would still go online for the quizzes though.
The "Course Guide" was useless. I never used it. It's full of sample problems (mostly short answer, not multiple choice like the real test, so they take much longer). Basically I would only recommend purchasing it if you want to put in 5x as much work as you really need to pass. Don't give yourself "too" much time for C2 so that it cuts into studing for your spring exam.
The actual exam is sooooooo easy compared to an actuarial exam. The pass mark is around 70% and it's all multiple choice. It's 2 hrs long and you will not be rushed at all. I took my time and finished with 45 minutes to spare. The pass rates from the first 2 sittings were 94.2% and 88.8%, if that's any indication of how difficult it is compared to an actuarial exam.

Just be careful to give yourself enough time. There's a deceptively large amount of material in these things and I think many people will need more than a month to get through it all. It would be safer to allow 2 months for the first one you do.

thanks all!! that's a relief to learn that it's nothing like an actuarial exam. I guess I'll try to get this out of the way before the next exam in may then!

one more question, so if i sign up today for testing window Jan-March, does that mean I can start using the materials today and pick a date in between Jan-march to take the actual exam? or do I wait until 1/1 to have the access?

I'm pretty sure that you'll have immediate access. The "testing window" just identifies which "syllabus" material you're studying for (in the event that they change the course contents--I don't imagine them doing anything like that ;-)).
You'll have up to 1 year from the time you purchase the course to take the Exam. For example, suppose you purchased the material on Nov 4, 2011 for that Jan-Mar testing window. The earliest you can take the test would be Jan 15, but you have until Nov 3, 2012 to actually take that test.
At least, that the way I understand it.

should I just keep retaking these quizes as a study tool? I'm assuming that each time I take it, the quiz questions are different?

The quiz questions are pretty representative of the actual exam. You can retake the quizzes and some of the questions will change. There is a question bank for each quiz, but sometimes they aren't very large. You'll probably see all the quiz questions after 2 attempts in a 4 question quiz.
When I took course 1, I retook each quiz until I scored 100% and then called it good.
