Post some good Black Friday Deals you are thinking of scooping up. I have nothing in mind at the moment but I might be tempted to buy something I don't need if there is a good deal.

I was considering a new laptop - but it is only worth getting if I want to play games on it since I can use my work laptop for web surfing (with the exception of certain sites).

Best Buy?

Possibly. Haven't exactly seen anything that screamed "buy me" yet. I want LED and 1080p, probably 32" but would consider 37" (I have a small pad). Most of the units that are in the stores are 720p though. And I don't know if I want to order one online since I don't want to deal with the hassles of returning it every time if the one I get isn't to my liking.

There really isn't a big difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32''.

On a 32" tv, you won't find much difference visually between 720p and 1080p, unless you sit really close to the TV while you watch

I'm looking for a TV too. Trying to get something around 46in.

There is one that is listed at BB (51in 720p plasma for $500) but I'm thinking that is probably one of those that they have like 2 in stock and i'd have to camp out or something.

Generally I haven't seen a whole lot of really good deals on TVs so far.

I'm going to try and pick up a cheap laptop if at all possible. We had a laptop and then my wife left it sitting out with a drink next to it and my son knocked the drink on top of it. We had the protection plan and they just gave us our money back as opposed to a new computer. This is the reason, I won't let her use my work laptop at home. It stays in the bag so my kid and wife won't hurt it.

I haven't started looking at the ads yet, so when someone sees the cheap ones can you make sure to post them here? Thanks.

Most people on this board's time should be worth more than the savings. But of course, that's only if you would do something income-producing with the time. Oh yeah, I've been meaning to get a second job.

We bought our regular TV back in 2002 or 2003. It's getting a bit wonky now.

Our projectors blew a few months ago. I'd rather get those replaced. Unfortunately, the company that had made the three refurbished units we bought evidently changed their business focus from making projectors to doing 3D "printing". (there was an interlude where they were building computers, so Stu tells me, but I missed that bit). Those lasted about 4 years, I'd guess.

So, I'd say, anywhere from 4 - 9 years.

But I have no incentive to share. The worse the paper book market, the cheaper it gets.

The oldest boy wanted a game system for Xmas ... which I wouldn't have cared about, except that he offered to pay most of the cost. So, we got the $199 PS3 Black Friday bundle with 2 games that I'm sure he couldn't care less about. [I tried to talk him into the XBox with Kinect at $199, but he decided he'd rather have the PS3. His money, he can have what he wants.] Then I found Madden '12 for $28 on Amazon, which will make him much happier on Christmas.

After that,
-- 2 screen portable DVD player [normal $179, sale price $99]; will be perfect for 7-hour trips to/from the in-laws.
-- Pair of Wii games for the girls [normal ~$40, sale price $24ish]
-- 3 movies for the kids [normal ~$60, sale price $25]
-- 19" TV for the girls [normal $199, sale price $139]. I wanted the LCD/DVD combo, but I couldn't find one I liked.
-- Kodak 12MP digital camera, waterproof [normal $99, sale price $59]; this one was a late purchase because the existing digital camera, bought in 2005, is starting to have problems.

So, that's all without ever having to leave the house and deal with the crowds, fight for parking spots, and all that other stuff. Also means that Christmas shopping is done for the year; the only way I buy anything else now is if something breaks down and we have to replace it.

They've already read through all the Dilbert, Far Side, Calvin & Hobbes, and Foxtrot books I already have (I didn't have any Get Fuzzy or Pearls Before Swine books).... and they've pretty much destroyed them. And my collection was far from complete - I stopped buying those books before the kids were born.

So I figure they can have their own books, and destroy their own property while reading.
