Weekend also has a little more stress on the second syllable than weakened.

Everybody's working for the weakened.

I think the difference in pronunciation, if any, is not material and can be ignored.

Any differences in pronunciation would be dwarfed by other speaking assumptions such as but not limited to:
a) future governmental regulations on pronunciation
b) regional variations in pronunciations
c) ability to measure pronunciation
d) amount of alcohol consumed by speaker (or listener)
e) other variables not enumerated.

Please note that these statements rely on data provided by the OP and have not been independently verified or audited.

Weekend also has a little more stress on the second syllable than weakened.

This is true, and I think that some people in the South seem to overaccent the first syllable of many words, such as INsurance. Therefore, I reckon that they are disproportionately likely to pronounce both of the choices here the same.

I usually have a much happier tone of voice when I say "weekend," though I'm so tired from the week that my voice is weakened.

My friend told me about his sex life, and I don't know which of the following he said:

Tri-weekly
Try weekly
Try weakly

Weakened

Weekend

They are pronounced differently. The former is a trochee, the latter a spondee.

Yes, that's a joke Stu likes to remind me about all the time. There were tchotchkes you could get at Cracker Barrel or Stuckeys that had that on there. Lots of tasteless crap in addition to the tasty crap.

I'm detecting a rebuke here...

Also, I see a different syllable break.

Wea-kened vs.
Week End

PS - campbell, what was your vote? Did Stu disagree?

Let's make this whole thread about puns. Let's see who gets this one:

The reason I started this thread is because I had gotten confused. We both pronounce the words too similarly to distinguish the two.

since you're from the south do you pronounce them "week and"?

Raleigh doesn't have a particularly pronounced Southern accent.

But we can say "y'all" with authenticity.
