"The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.'"

a conservative Hispanic political organization and the director of the RNC are complaining about it. I really, really don't get this one.

Racist? What the hell does it mean, isn't a chimichanga a deep fried burito?

here's the original article, it makes more sense now.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/does-the-gop-care-about-latino-voters/2012/02/14/gIQANyJUER_story.html

basically Dana Milbank (along with writing about Republicans doing badly with Hispanics)
complains that Rand Paul held up the nomination of a Hispanic appeals judge to bitch about Egypt:

But Republicans didn’t care enough about that to stand up to Paul. Through the “debate” on the nomination, one senator after the other came to the floor — and ignored the delay.

Some spoke about transportation. Others spoke about the budget. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) spoke about the wonders of his state. “The lettuce in your salad this month almost certainly came from Arizona,” McCain said. “It’s also believed that the chimichanga has its origin in Arizona.”

The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.

Then Obama's campaign manager tweeted the last line of the article for some reason, and Republicans complained.

I'd prefer a shredded brisket burrito drowned in green or red enchilada sauce.

Even in context it doesn't make sense. I suspect booze was involved.

The calzone? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Italians.

If this is about excessive pork, then I approve of putting excessive pork in a chimichanga.

I got nothing. This wriiter seems to be assuming that the hispanic judge-nominee is being held up because he's hispanic. AND his approval would be "good for hispanics" somehow. Like, he'd be lenient on hispanic-related issues, while other judges of other races would have a prejudged opinion on hispanic-related issues against hispanics?? Absurd.

Egypt is holding some American citizens "virtually hostage," and we're giving assistance to Egypt. Paul objects to that. This is a way to get some attention on something important to him. If it's not important to anyone else, so be it.

I don't think it makes one whit of difference to Rand Paul where this judge was born.

Meanwhile, this writer makes up some story inferring that the GOP doesn't care about Hispanics. What a load of crap.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/15/jim-messina-chimichanga-tweet-latino-voters_n_1279519.htmlIt's no less racist than many of the comments Republicans have made over the years which have received that label.

Whoa, stop the clock. Excessive pork? There's no such thing.

I can't seem to find racist 5455. Can someone link it? I hate to miss the middle of the show.

Well, only so much pork will fit into a chimichanga. The rest, or the "excess," of which I approve, can be left on the plate.
