Can someone tell me how I would be expected to solve this problem given the Mack reading. I don't feel like the reading gives me the tools that I need to solve this problem... at least the way that TIA solves it.

It's in the Appendix of that reading (pages 166-168) and is solved exactly the way TIA shows it (which is taken straight from the sample answer provided by the CAS).
