Office Assistant - Turn him off for good

How do I turn off that annoying Office Assistant. Every time I go to save a file, he pops up asking what version I want to save a spreadsheet as. I know I've done this before, but I can't find where to turn him off. Help!

Right-click on the Office Assistant and hit "options". Uncheck all the boxes and he should go away forever. And good riddance to him.

You might also look under tools options (either in transition or general) to see that by default you are saving as "Excel Workbook". One of the things MS tries to do for you is help maintain backward compatability... Of course this is a problem when they keep changing the file formats!
