Things have been a bit crazy in my life and unfortunately, I haven't begun studying for course 5. My question to everyone is this, is it worth starting now and trying to cram everything in 2 months, or should I just wait until next May? I really want to get these exams out of the way, but I also want to be realistic.
This will be my first "real" casualty exam since I've only taken courses 1 through 4, so I'm not sure how long it takes to study for these exams. There are a LOT of articles to read. Any thoughts?

It appears that you are behind the curve right now, but you have more time than you may think.
It seems to me that you have over 2 1/2 months (as opposed to only 2) at this point. I would recommend going for it. If you fall short, you should be golden for next May.
You may burn yourself out though with your limited time.

I think it would be great experience for you just to study and sit for the exam, whether or not you pass. Even if you didn't pass, you'd be that much more prepared when you retake it next spring.

The question is, are things still crazy in your life? If the potential is yes, then I would say give yourself a break and start studying at a relaxed pace for the fall.
If you understand and have been exposed to the material at work, then considering going for it!

WWSituation, I don't understand your post. Perhaps the edits made by the Princess account for the misunderstanding.

Sorry,
In all of my life, I never thought I'd see someone calling themself PosternutBag anywhere on an actuarial discussion board. It makes me laugh and also makes me happy.
If your name is not a reference to the Phish song, then random events have collapsed themselves into a new dimension. Please don't mess with my head like that!

Yeah, I edited my post. I originally said "I agree with PosterNutBag" and then I deleted that sentence b/c I wasn't exactly agreeing with you per se. Does that explain things?
Basically, I think we all think your name is a bit funny/unique.

Good call, WWSituation.
I am a huge Phish phan and I love the song "Harpua". Hence, PosterNutBag is born on the actuarial message boards. I have always thought that PosterNutBag is a ridiculous name for a cat and it just seems like an appropriately funny name for a message board, to which you "post" your messages. You may have also notice that I am listed as being from Gamehendge.
Don't miss Phish's upcoming appearance on the April 7th episode of the Simpsons.
I should have known that you were a Phish phan as well. I notice you were from "the land of the big baboon", but didn't think of how that was familiar to me. That line is in "Lizards".

Phew! All is right with the world again!
We should probably move this to a new topic.

As Ammie said, if things are still crazy, then you may be well-served to wait till next time.
I never go for an exam unless I know that I can study enough hours to give myself a decent shot come exam time. Sitting for an exam in which my chance of passing is extremely low is not worth it to me.

Thanks for the advice all. Yes, things are still crazy. I guess they probably will be for a little while - well, more like 18 years - I have a newborn if this explains things better! I've decided to just hold off on C5 and start gathering materials for C6. I'll start studying some time in May so that will allow me extra time. Good luck to all who are taking the May exams!

Am I losing it here???
C5 is offered in Nov and C6 is offered in May. So you have 2 months to study for 6, not 5.
Answer (edited:)
YES I am losing it!!!
I'm in the CAS thread.
D'oh!!!
