I was thinking about buying one of study manuals. Which manual (Actex or the Averbach and Mehta Spiegel) is best? How do they
differ from the past exam solutions available on the web in explaining problems? Which provides the most detail?

Hi! I sat for course 1 in Nov, and I used the Actex study manual. I didn't pass, so this time I'm trying the Averbach manual. I definitely think Averbach is better. You will definitely need a good Calculus book to refer to occasionally, though. I think the problems in Averbach are a better representative of the test problems, and I seem to be understanding them alot better than the ones in Actex.
Just my opinion-Good luck!

I agree with have2pass. Averbach is better. I had both for the last sitting, but I used Averbach way more than Actex. I failed too, but I shall not be denied again.

have2pass was alright right in saying having a good calc book on hand to refer to. Some stuff just doesn't come back as quickly as you think it would.

Pillow,

I was just wondering were you close to passing last time, because I'm going to use both the Averback & Actex this time? I also failed last time but I only studied half of the Averbach.

CMC2,
Define "close" to passing.

In my mind I was close, but I would say I was about average. I wasn't a 5, so I know I still have some work to do. I'm planing on looking at both the Averbach and Actex again this time around.

How's studying going for you? I'm feel like I'm finally making a little progress.

Studying is going pretty good, I'm hoping to get about 350 hours this time how about you? I only have about 85 so far, so I still have a lot of work to do.

I was planning on 350 hours as well! Haha. Isn't that ironic. I'm not nearly as far in hours due to some unexpected events...

check your PMs.

thanks for the link glenn...

i got another question:

i get out of school the first week of may
and then i'm gonna buckle down and study for
the first test on the 22nd. Am i crazy? do i (or will i) need therapy? most importantly, given that i took all the relevant courses in
quick succession, aced them, but took the last one last spring, what r my chances?

Better start putting a little time in now if you have it. You might pull it off otherwise, but trust me, 5's suck.

BAD LUCK!!

After receiving a speeding ticket this weekend, the bag with all my study materials inside was stolen from my trunk!! The bag was worth nothing to the person who stole it but cost me a good bit! I already forked out the money to order Averbach's study manual once again. At least the book will be in better shape than my old one (I failed the first time) Maybe it will be an inspiration...

hey

why is the averbach so ghetto? it looks like something they made in the garage. $60.00 for that??? oh well, i hope it helps me.

the incredible thag.....

Your not crazy, the whole study all of march for c1 can work. I'm living proof. I failed in Nov 2000 after about 20 hrs of study and whatever related college courses, then I decided not to study for the entire semester. A friend and I studied for about 125 hrs in a 17 day period. I passed with a 7, but I was pretty burned out and I doubt I could still pass the exam.

Good Luck!!
