We are looking for ideas for gag gifts for a new FSA (she will be when she gets back from Toronto). Current ideas include
-slide rule/pocket protector
-book on social skills
-nerd glasses (tape modified groucho marx glasses)
-belt clip calculator holder (modified from universal cell phone belt clip)
-mirrors for shoes so she can make eye contact with other actuaries
Any help is appreciated

How about a pink slip?
Congratulations!! You're fired. The analysts covering our stock won't let us hire any new FSAs. Sorry, we can't afford a sell recommendation.

I was given an abacus when I got my FSA.

You should get her SOA approved calculator bronzed. (like baby shoes).

I like Snow White's suggestion. The rest are overused and stereotypical.

I actually thought of doing this when my boss got his FSA. I asked for his old(the really old one) calculator. Then I went to a place where they bronze things. Well, it was going to cost about $60(in 1995)! Heck, I won't spend that much money on my boss. So I didn't do it. I still have his calculator. Maybe when he retires.....

Saw it in half, attach it to ear muffs.

The oldest calculator I recall is the one before the BA-35 (non-solar). I think it was white and did not have any log or exponential functions.
How about one of those "Actuary" t-shirts. (I've got one from winning the Actuarial Digest puzzle drawing. I’m sure you could purchase one.)
There are also Actext t-shirts.
How about a t-shirt with a super man logo with (1) FSA in it or (2) “Actuary” in it. You could even use the super man colors.

Thanks for all the ideas. She got an official SOA calculator with a belt clip attached. An offical SOA calculator mounted to a wooden plaque (actually the calculator was split in half so you got both the keys and the logo on the plaque). Addition/Subtraction flash cards. A learn to count flap book. A thinking cap. A huge (18" long x 1" diameter)pencil and "ledger paper" (artists tablet of newprint). A phone card with 0 minutes to call everyone (who wasn't an actuary) that cared. The one item I thought about too late was a copy of the disney classic...Donald Duck in Mathmagic land.

The best gag gift that I've received was a long-sleeved soccer jersey with the number 6 on the front. The shirt was a gift to commemorate an exam that I got a 6 on (just barely). After that, I always wore the "lucky 6 shirt" for good luck the day before the exam. Oddly, it seemed to work.
