I am putting together the final submission but unsure about a few questions.
Would be nice to have someone to discuss.

I would like to discuss this as well. I am not quite at the end and ready to submit. Just finishing up the fourth section exercise.

For Section 5 Exercise 2 Task 3, what is the investment they are looking for which hedges their equity, interest rate, and volatility sensitivities? I know their equity sensitivity can an be mitigated through delta hedging, but what investment covers all three? I figured they would have said which investment would do this at some point in the module, but I never came across one...

Using other options can hedge all three

Using other options can hedge all three

Like since GMAB is like selling a put, they should buy puts to hedge all three?

I'm not exactly sure what to do on Section 5 Exercise 2 Task 2... it is asking for returns with and without hedging.

I'm not sure where we are incorporating a hedge...Can someone explain what they did in the worksheet?

Nvm this totally makes sense now.

Join the group! I went into detail about what I did there. I made a small modification to the hidden work tab of the model to basically account for the cash flows of a put, then looked at various risk metrics with and without the put in there.

I think there are multiple possibilities here...you just need to incorporate assets with non-zero delta, rho, and vega and you should be able to find some combination that neutralizes the position.

I remember an old FETE exam had you eliminate delta with a forward and then hedge one or two of the other greeks with an option.

I decided to just use long puts. The question states "if the company chooses to hedge all three risks, which instrument should they buy?", and I'm paranoid about the singular use of "instrument". These module graders can be picky.

Hi,

I just applied to join the Financial Modeling google group, thanks for creating the google group!
On a side note, has anyone started on Exercise 6 (Dynamic Hedging)? I feel like there is an error in the spreadsheet model provided. It relates to the histogram with the PV of payouts. The module audiocast specifies that the blue bars represents the payoff associated with the GMAB with no hedging, while the red bars represent the payoff associated with the GMAB + the cashflow from hedging. However, when you look at the source data for the histogram, this is clearly incorrect. The red bars represent the payoff of the GMAB liability, while the blue bars solely the present value of the hedging payout. In addition, in the 'GMAB_RW Work' tab, cell AY8's "MAX" function doesn't go down all the way to row 5023, which will impact the display of the histogram when you modify the inputs to values specified in the assignment.
The audiocast guy said that there is no need to look at the details underlying the model to perform the assignment. However, it seems to me that the PV payout histogram is simply wrong. Did anyone else encounter the same issue, or am I missing something?

Can some one tell me why "deterministic modelling cannot capture risks that are non-diversifiable"?

In Section 5, for the spreadsheet ''finmod_s5_04_model''. When I push to the button ''Regenerate single Scenario'', I have this error :

''A scripting framework error occured while running the UNKNOWN Script UNKNOWN
Message: Incorrect format for Script URI ''.

Also in part 2 of the spread sheet, I don't have the button ''Run a single Monte- Carlo to simulate option results''.
Nor in part 3, I don't have the button '' Run 10 sets of Monte Carlo simulations ''

Can someone help, Please?

What version excel do you use? I might try re-downloading the file to see if it didn't get corrupt.

Just googled that error and it looks like everyone that has gotten it has been using Open Office.

I would recommend only using the workbooks in Microsoft Excel.
