Anyone know anything about these two companies? I am contacted by a recruiter regarding open positions. Please feel free to reply here or PM me.

I interviewed with BCBSIL before. I think Fort Dearborn Life is their life sub. They both are in a nice blue building by Aon center right by the lake in Chicago.

I think BCBSIL's CEO and some top ranking people there have actuarial background. Hence, the actuaries in this company have lots of power. They have good study policy and good rotational oportunities. The company is growing consistently.

However, I think, like many other actuarial driven companies (if you are looking for a student position), I don't think their students were trained very well since their managers are all way too busy with their own works and trainings are neglected. When I was interviewing, I felt like talking to a smart manager who knows everything and two hours later talking to a bunch of students who has no clue what's going on but study.

For you reference, another thing that I noticed ( and was told by another friend), they don't have any minorities employee in the actuarial department (African American, Asian...) This may not be true since I was only their for couple hours.

As far as for Fort Dearborn Life, I don't know much about it. But they have a smaller actuarial department and you probably will get a lot more exposure in a company that's actuarial driven. And I heard they have different life subs under different names in different states. So, they combine might be different than you thought.
