"Jason Williams was a unanimous selection to the AP All-America team yesterday, the second year in a row the junior guard was picked for the first team.
Joining Williams on the first team were junior forward Drew Gooden of Kansas and senior guards Steve Logan of Cincinnati, Juan Dixon of Maryland and Dan Dickau of Gonzaga."
Congrats to all. But I have to ask if it makes sense to have 4 guards named and only 1 forward? Why not pick the five best at their positions?

That worked pretty good when guys only played one position. Now you see guys who play 1, 2 and 3 or 2-4 or 3-5. So it gets harder to pick one from each position.

I laughed when I heard the announcement on the radio,
"Jason Williams was unanimously selected as Player of the Year. That's the first time that has happened since Elton Brand was unanimously selected in 1999."
So, there have only been 2 other players selected in that period. Not really worth noting. Williams is a great player, but his season was not worthy of unanimous selection. Gooden and Dixon deserved more consideration.

It is even less significant when you consider thatthe two winners, Kenyon Martin and Shane Battier, only missed unanimity by 1 vote.
(Who in the heck didn't vote for them....they were far more obvious choices than Williams this year -Gooden could have easily snagged a vote or two.)

So 3 of the last 4 players of the year were from Duke? Thanks for pointing that out.

That's another reason to hate Duke in addition to their smug fans, media darling status and Christian Laettner's thuggery when he was there.

Its graduation rate is nothing to hate.
Its insistence on said thug to graduate else the championship banner he helped win would not be hung in the rafters is nothing to hate.
Dicky V's overenthusiastic raving, well, that is something to hate.

I find Billy Packard's blatant rooting for the ACC far more offensive. Why is it always "Duke University" with him, and not just "Duke".

If you mean Billy Packer, he hates Duke. Read a basketball history book or something to find out why.

Or just have someone tell you he's a Wake Forest alum.

That's true, but there's more to the story.
