Which calculator is best to purchase for the course 1 exam (functionality, ease of use, etc.)?
The TI-30X II S. It's the only calculator with two line entry, it's very easy to learn, and it allows you to go back to edit previous entries.
This is not an opinion. This is indisputable fact.

The BA35 Solar is necessary for Course 2 (but I don't think it is for Course 1). I like using the TI30XIIS for all calculations. The two line entry, editing capability, and parentheses make this a no-brainer for me. These calculators are relatively inexpensive -- it pays to get both in the long run. I'm going to fish around in the forum for a calculator thread and post there to bring it to the top.
