I watched Swingers last nite and figured out why you named yourself that. Vince Vaughn so funny. I've seen the movie before, but i didn't catch the name.

Vince Vaughn's character in that movie is one of the best characters in movie history! Jon Favreau's character actually says the line that gives DDT his name:

"This is Trent...we call him Double Down."

One of the best movies ever...

"Ladies, don't you always double down on 11?"

"Always"

Couldn't agree more, Not Mike. That movie single-handedly started the swing craze of the mid-to-late 90s (at the end when Jon Favreau and Heather Graham are dancing).

Other classic lines from that movie:

(1) "Baby, you are so money, and you don't even know it!"

(2) "Vegas, baby!!!!! VEGAS!!!!!!!!!"

(3) "This place is dead anyway!"

Also, check out Bill Simmons (the Sports Guy writer for ESPN www.sportsguy.net for his columns on that movie - truly classic)!

Man, we used to watch that movie almost every week before we went out to the bars... it's just so true... "this place is dead anyway", yeah that line still comes out every so often....

Some of my other faves:

"And I'm supposed to be excited because she's wearing a backpack."

"Like f'n House of Pain was going to do anything!"

"Daddy's gonna get us the Rain Man Suite."

Love the NHL Hockey scene.... love the diner scene ("Our little Mikey's all grownsed up")... love the scene when T gets wasted and is calling out Sue in the booth ("no, I'm sure that you've never mentioned her")... and I loved Heather Graham after that movie.

Mike: "Sells scrapmetal."

Trent: "Jesus Mikey! You're the fun loving party and you're sweating some lawn jockey?"

Mike: "I'm not going to Vegas"

Mike: "I'm not going to Vegas"
on the road: Mike: "Listen I got $300 dollara, but I'm only betting with $100 that's all I can afford"

Mike: "And half of them are just nasty skanks who wouldn't be nothing if they weren't surrounded by a bunch of drunken *******s, and I'm gonna tell you something T are you listening"
Trent: "Ya I'm listening"
Mike: "I'm not gonna be one of those *******s"

Perhaps. What about in those charity type casinos where the dealer doesn't take his second card until after you double, split...etc...

I'd much rather double down v an Ace than a Ten.

Why:
with a ten the dealer has a 4/12 chance of having 20.
with a ace the dealer has a 1/9 chance of having 20.

Figured I'd put my thread to use.

Since most people are still plugging away at work, I thought I'd update you all on my afternoon so far so you could live vicariously through me....

Not nearly as exciting as freeman WPT/WSOP updates, but that's all I've got for today.

Event Place Win Cumulative
$109 turbo 4 of 9 $0 ($109)
$55 multi 53 of 153 $0 ($164)
$21 HU match 1 of 2 $40 ($145)
$210 HU match 1 of 2 $400 $45
now, on to the last match of the day .... afternoon heads up tourny

back with (hopefully good) updates soon.

Hand for discussion from my $200 heads up match.

Background: I've played this guy once before, and knew he was an aggressive heads up player.. 5th hand in.. As you can tell from the stacks, I had been laying down to his 5x BB raises the first 4 hands, he even came over the top of one of my earlier raises...

Take it down. Call in a heartbeat. Maybe that is just me, but top pair, top kicker in heads up is pretty good. And if he is being aggressive, you really can't get any info from his bets.

Call and do (hopefully) a happy dance.

Yup, I called and he had 8J, took it down and then took him out a few hands later.

bad news on the HU tourney. Just lost all in preflop 99 vs AK, he caught the A on the turn.

Oh well, maybe time for one more match....

If he's got that, I pay him off. You guys can call me a dork, but when I am at my computer playing online and the chat is boring (er, non existant), I sit there and deal out two handed holdem on my desk. It is so rare that 1 pair gets dominated by something greater then 1 pair.

If I am playing heads up, I usually play middle pair as if its a winner (I wouldn't call an all-in bet, but I will bet). Just not as many winning combinations.

TJ or two pair don't scare you?

I would not be scared of either of those hands. All-in is way to aggressive for the nut st. Granted there are flush possibilities, but I find aggressive players will slow play very good hands (nuts or near nuts) despite the obvious dangers. 2 pair means he would've flopped it, in which case I think he bets higher preflop, or he has Qs up. I don't think he would bet Qs up all-in either. I call.
