OK, let's see who can own up to their own hypocrisy.

I'll go first:

I was talking to one of my gun-nut pals last night. This is one of my closest friends, and we've know each other for 8 or 9 years. He taught me how to fire a guns, and has taken me to the range on several occasions when he gets some new "toys."

At this point in his life, he has accumulated and impressive arsenal (OK, I wouldn't know that except that my other gun nut buddies who know what they're talking about seem to be impressed.) He keeps it at him home which is in the middle of nowhere in rural PA.

So, last night I called to wish his daughter a Happy Birthday, and we got to talking about recent events, including the government's recent warnings that al Qaeda might be planning a chem or bio attack.

He has never been thrilled with my decision to move to Civilization, and IMO, is unneccessarily worried about a terrorist attack near my current home.

So, last night he starts giving me the details of a plan that he has worked out whereby I can get to his place and the safety of his arsenal should any major events happen in my city, and how he has guns aplenty and we and few other buddies from way back can hole ourselves up should the Apocalypse happen anytime soon.

So, I hate guns and would love to ban them and take them all away from my gun nut friends. But, should the shit hit the fan, I'm running to my buddy's fortress. Pretty hypocritical, huh?

I am more prone to see the nastiness or dishonesty in RF posts whose "bigger picture" I disagree with. I don't know how much more prone (I think "slightly"), and I don't know if this differentiates me at all from anyone else here. I'm also an adherent of "he/she started it!", which can lead to the appearance of hypocrisy when nastiness is being deconstructed.


I want Nick Berg's murderers castrated. Maybe any descendants they have. I want them abused as much as necessary to gain (truly) "darn good intelligence," and then I want them to experience the embarrassment of a humane, civilized trial, incarceration, appeals if they are sentenced to death, and, if it comes to that in Iraq, execution without passion. I want them to be told that their very existence is a mistake. I don't know if this is so inconsistent with my beliefs about capital punishment or even the recent abuse scandal, but I know I'm not prepared to justify it at present.
