Anyone have any experience with the CAMAR Part 9 seminar? It's being taught by Margaret Doyle & Chester (Chet) Szczepanski.

Thanks in advance...

Here's the thread from last year: http://www.actuary.ca/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=14333

Reading that, with my own experience from NEAS a couple of years ago, I'd be tempted to do CAMAR unless Brosius was teaching again at NEAS.

Sorry, NEAS 9 is all Feldblum, all the time. Haven't done CAMAR in years. Mike Powers was the man for 4B (passed it on the first try thanks to him), then tried Graham Lloyd for 5B and did NEAS ever since. Not that Feldblum taught much better, but his written material is very good and I don't have to make two weekend trips to Philly.

Thanks for the info - I thought I remembered a thread about this in the past...

I went to Goldfarb's Part 8 seminar run by CAMAR last time and found it helpful. I've never really gotten much out of SF, so I'm looking for alternatives for part 9... Two trips to Philly is a bit of a PITA, but I'm only a short walk to the train, so it's not that big of a deal...

This time it's either 4 days of Feldblum or two 3 day sessions in Philly... Since this is my first time through, I'm kind of thinking the extra time in Philly might be helpful - maybe they can cover stuff a bit more thoroughly...

Still, if anyone has any experience with these seminars, I'd appreciate any commentary. I have a bit of time before I have to sign up...

Thanks again,

BigLarry

Went to SF's NEAS seminar last year. Did not find it terribly helpful (other than the extended study time in my room :) ) Some of the written material was helpful once we actually received it but most of it was just excess paper. YMMV

Dear y'all,

I'm interested in CAMAR. Unfortunately my company won't pay for two plane tickets. So unless CAMAR is REALLY good (i.e. so much better to NEAS that it is worth springing for the tab myself), I'll be doing NEAS.

Is CAMAR that good?

Any seminar is only as good as the instructor, and haven't heard anything glowing about these particular ones. You know what you're getting with Feldblum, and if you take the Chicago seminar it's given at a very good time. If you can handle his teaching style I'd recommend that you save your money.
