I don't have an exam this sitting (only have #8 left), but if I did I'd often be up that late. Not because of stressing, though. Just because that's when I study. My routine is to come home from work, get dinner, take a nap for an hour or so, then start studying around 9pm and knock off at 2 or 3 in the morning. Not every night, though.

For me quality is very important and mine tends to diminish when lacking sleep. I also tend to get sick when sleep deprived.

When I was taking math exams, I often stayed up studying into the wee hours of the morning. I developed an uncanny ability to keep working problems while half asleep--usually, one eye would be closed, but somehow I was able to keep writing.

When I started taking essay exams, I started studying in the morning. I usually got up at 5:00 and tried to get in a couple of hours of study time before work (of course, I still had to study for another hour or two after work). This took some getting used to, since I'm not naturally a morning person, but I found that it was a lot easier to stay focused early in the morning.
