View Full Version : That tribute concert thingy

All I want to know is, who were the musicians who played that god-awfully putrid rendition of "Wish You Were Here". That way I'll know NEVER to buy anything of theirs. Bleah.
The rest of the concert was OK, though I do admit I hit the mute button during Celine's thing.
Anybody know how much they raised that evening?

I would've muted Celine too, but my wife is a huge fan, and forced me to listen.
But I have to admit, her performance was fantastic! I actually got goose-bumps when she was singing. One of the best renditions of God Bless America I have ever heard.
One thing, though : "God bless America, My home sweet home" doesn't quite carry the same weight when sung by a Canadian.
I thought the last group sing-along with Willie Nelson was pretty lame and cheesy, but at least it had heart.

$150m raised, still coming in to website.
Agree Celine was great, much better than Diana Ross at the Met Game a bit earlier
Mister: I think the ones you are looking for are from Limp Bizkit & Google Dolls (sp).

Her voice is nice, but her smug face and arm movements are reason enough to turn off the visual.
Fred Durst of Limp Biskit sang "Wish You Were Here." I don't know about the rest of the guys. Perhaps the rest of Limp Biskit, or maybe guest guitarists. One guy looked like the guy from the Goo-Goo Dolls (name escapes me). I don't think you were going to buy anything from them ever, anyway.

No thinking necessary, Mr Mister. Semi-colon, hyphen, right parenthesis.

I taped it. We might watch again.
Boss-man singing a relatively new song (he sung it in Asbury Park in December, about Asbury Park -- which from what I can tell is not a very pretty city, except from the shoreline, looking toward the ocean) opening is pretty powerful.
Now, who can tell me where to get a list of rasio stations owned by Clear Channel? I feel a personal boycott coming on.
Can anyone tell me what part of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" might be offensive in light of 9/11?
I think Clear Channel is one of those station owners who control the playlists from some central location. The playlists are designed to keep people from changing stations. Pretty shrewd, if you're trying to capture LCD. Ha, I say. I'm a Most Unique Denominator!

I listen to a clear channel station and they play "Bridge". Where did you here it was being restricted?

To Preppy: I can't tell one from the other. It's like you need a glossary or something. Besides, the person who invented the smiley face (in the 70's) is probably not seeing one dime. I've never been good at reading people's expressions. If they had one with a facial tick, though...
To Patience: It's what I read somewhere. "Imagine" as well. I'll go look it up.

They also played Imagine (a lot in the beginning). I complained to them about "Let it be". They played thay a lot to, and it seemed to passive a statement for what people were feeling
These are the NY stations:
106.7 Lite fm, Z100, WKTU, Q104.3, Jammin 105 and WALK 97.5, collectively known as the Clear Channel Radio Group

These type of stations (not those in particular) remind me of an old WKRP episode in which Venus Flytrap gets a job offer of program director (or VP of programming) at a new station, but it turns out all the recordings are on a computer, preprogrammed with DJ voices and everything. He wouldn't even have to show up for his late-night shift. So besides being a token-minority hire, he wouldn't be doing what he really wants to do.
Then there was the one where the promo guy decided to drop turkeys from a helicopter. Classic!

"I thought turkeys could fly!"
Funny, funny show!

there was also where the evangalist was controlling the songs played, Mr Carlton (sp?) last straw was when he wouldn't allow Imagine.
Now that is the show that relates to your problem.
btw, Q104.3 has great DJ's who truly know the music & musicians. Get great on air interviews.

Excellent point, Patience.
I wish I could receive those stations. 104.3 is either static or, worse, lite hits from the 80's, 90's and today!

Ah, some humor again! I like the part about the ballad singers.

104 is classic rock. Who, Zepplin, Queen - unless that's your definition of lite.

Actually, it's a completely different station from yours. I'm a bit out of range of NYC radio.
However, I would consider that "Dino Rock." Music to keep boomers tuned.
Q104.3 is the station I most listen to here in NYC.
Approximate quote from Wendy Wasserstein's play "Our American Daughter":
Classic rock stations are for those people who don't realize that American culture is no longer about them.
