My parents bought Operation for my nephews this Christmas. I think I had more fun than they did with it.

By the way, no medical inflation there.....

I used to play this with my brother all the time, and we thought 9 was the highest and best. So our scouts would go charging in and busting the hell out of everyone. What a sweet game.

I bought this game to see if we could jerry-rig some drinking rules to it. As it turned out, this game is so much more elementary than I ever remember. Also, all of the special areas (gumdrop forest, molasses pit) have all changed names. What a sad day in Candyland...

As for Mousetrap, we never even once played the actual game according to the rules I don't think. All the fun was in construction the trap and springing it!
Same with Operation, aren't you supposed to get $$ for removing the pieces? We didn't bother.

In the spirit of geekiness, I got tired of using paper money in Monopoly, so my sister & I kept track of our $$$ using calculators.

I saw the game myself. Why did they change the special spaces? (I remember the worst special spot was candy hearts, now it's "Plumpy." Egad.)

I remember the ad saying "You don't need to read or count to play." But you do have to be able to count to two, I thought!

Bonkers - never the same game twice!

Jeopardy - Home version. My dad was a rabid fan so we played a lot.
Probe - a word game with cards. It never really caught on, but we liked it.
Kismet/Yahtzee
Trivial Pursuit

I loved playing board games with my family. Sadly, Mr. M is not a gamesman, so I rarely get a chance to play now. :(

Rubik's race

Although already mentioned on this thread, I loved Bonkers and Payday.

Card game - Bloody Knuckles. Just brutal if you were playing that you could hit as hard as you can. I still remember getting in trouble at a fanily reunion at my grandparents' house when I was about 5 years old for hitting my cousin's knuckles too hard and making her cry. (In my defense, she was two years old than me. Unfortunately, my parents didn't seem to buy that defense!)

I dont suppose this really counts as a game, but did anyone else pencil fight?? That was so much fun, and it was amazing how much trouble you could get in just by breaking something that was intended to be broken/sharpened about 50 times. :)

Another outdoor game we used to play was Man-Hunt. :)

I guess im going to give away my age but i spent a LOT of time in front of a Nintendo growing up. I have had some of the best times in my life playing video games/computer games with my friends. I guess thats why im still a gamer. :)

We used to play that at lunch everday! A couple of times, people got their hands really messed up...

There was one kid who was your typical 95 pound weakling, but he could scrape your knuckles better than anyone else. He took sick pleasure in it, too!

How about fireball? A strange game where there's a group of players. Somone throws the tennis ball against a brick wall. The object is to catch the ball with one hand. If you drop the ball, you have to run and touch the brick wall before someone else picks it up and hits you with it! I think if you got hit 3 times or something, you lost, which meant standing next to the wall with your back turned while everyone took a turn throwing the ball at you as hard as they could. :shake: Looking back on it, I don't really see what the point of the game was (except to inflict pain on the loser?). :shake:

We used to play the same game all of the time too, except we called it "Polish Handball".

What a great game. We played it all the time too, but called it "Butts Up" We also weren't as lenient; you only had to get hit once, not three times.

considering your chosen persona, I'm sure you won't mind if I decline to play "Butt's up" w/ you

I can't believe how many different names there are for it! :o

It was the worst when you'd be playing with your friends and a bunch of "big kids" would come and want to join (2-3 years older). You'd be petrified, but you couldn't say no because then you'd lose face and look like a wimp. So you let them play but you were terrified because they threw the ball so much harder than you.
