Has anyone else noticed that they are not releasing the approved courses until after we can no longer take the other exams? After looking at the VEE descriptions on the CAS webpage I'm thinking that I might have the college courses to cover the applied statistics. If I didn't have to take the VEE it would sure be nice to know and be able to skip the time series material on this exam.

F.Y.I.

I just got an email concerning recruiting for the Validation by Educational Experience Administration Committee.*

So it seems like the CAS and SOA will be starting the process of evaluating courses for VEE credit in about a month.

P.S. I have and will have nothing to do with this process. So do not complain to me.

I do believe that you cannot apply to be exempt from VEE until next year.

Can you contact your university to see if they have any clue on which course is likely be the applied stats course?

I'm curious about this also. I will probably at least attempt to contact/encourage the business and math departments of my local alma mater to submit courses.

On a related note, how does the CAS/SOA plan to get the word out to the non-ActSci curriculum universities? There are so many out there, and a lot of students end up in the profession that graduate from those colleges. (Well, they DID 'end up in the profession' before all this VEE crap was talked about. I suspect we could see this as a declining trend, but we'll see.)

The implementation of this transition has been very poorly planned. The preliminary task force report was released so late that many students had to abandon their preparation efforts for one May exam sitting in order to start over with a different syllabus and less time to get ready for it. Then, of course not having the knowledge of accepted coursework leaves students at a disadvantage in making the best decisions for the Nov sitting as well. I'm sure that having the transition occur in 'Year 2005' sounds good, but don't you think that other technicalities should be taken into consideration? Besides all this, they set a 25% pass rate for C2 with only one sitting left. Although I passed C2 wth this record-setting low pass rate, it's still just wrong, IMO.

At my university, the only regression/time series class is in the Econ department as "Applied Econometrics", which I get the pleasure of taking this fall :)

I have cantacted my former advisor in the hopes that they are submitting classes. It's really hard to tell what is going to count though. I saw a list of requirements to qualify for the VEE and the one for applied statistics was about 2 lines long. I just think that it stinks that we are all going to kill ourselves over this last sitting of 4 on all of the material that will be obsolete in abother 4 months. I just wish they had given us a chance to make a more informed decision about this exam sitting. Oh well, rant over.

I don't think it's really fair to say that the material will be obsolete. I don't think much (if any) of the Course 4 material is going away, it's just going to be tested differently - some on the new exam, some on the VEE exam/courses.

However, I will certainly grant you that the transition stinks - having to take a new 4 hour exam PLUS the whole VEE thing just because you don't get the old 4 hour exam...
