Did anybody watch the season premiere of ER last night? I missed the beginning. Did Dr. Greene kill that patient in the elevator?

Patience
09-28-2001, 02:02 PM
yes.

I missed the second half, how did it end?

Bonnie
09-28-2001, 02:34 PM
Dr. Greene allowed the patient to die at the end of last season.

Last night's episode was told from 4 different viewpoints - Carter, Benton, Weaver and Greene. Greene's focused on the M&M for the dead killer. He had reasons for all his actions and the death was not pursued further. He wanted to confess to his wife, Elizabeth, but she wouldn't let him.

All in all, not a great episode. Where's Sherry Stringfield? (I know, episode 3)

I thought it was pretty good. Get to know about more normal abnormal families (Benton, Carter), instead of pouty-girl's (Abby) family. Croatian Guy (Luca) deserves better. He should stop trying so hard.
Show should stop trying so hard to have pouty-girl be the center of attention.
Need more Asian Chick-Doc, preferably in compromising positions, maybe with Benton.

I was very tired and had trouble following where in the story line we were at any point.

Fell asleep with remote in hand.

DTNF: keep dreaming.

Speaking of compromising positions, what did anyone think of the new Star Trek?

I pretty much liked it. But how can the introduce new species that you don't see in later shows & what was with that shower seen?

Anonymous

I also kept falling asleep so I missed lots of scenes. Didn't know what was going on. This is Dr. Greene's last year so will they kill him?

Now, on to another show.....Friends! So, so...who was Rachel dating last that could be the father of the baby? I can't remember.

Saw part of Will and Grace. What is funny about this show? I can't even force myself to laugh. I hate that mean rich woman with a shrieking voice.

Does Everybody Love Raymond? Saw the season premiere. Not very funny anymore. Used to be funnier.

Any new shows worth watching?

Enterprise was alright. A little slow going for my tastes, but some good storyline build-up.

Maybe those shape-shifter types get wiped-out before Kirk's time. Or maybe they evolve into the Ferrengi?

The other interesting thing is that the Klingon looks like TNG Klingons (same as Star-Trek movies, DS9 and voyager), but they should look like Original Series Klingons (dark dudes with bushy eyebrows).

I was wondering the same thing about that shower scene. I'm not complaining, mind you, but it just seemed so out-of-place, and un-Star-Trek. Usually, you get chicks in miniskirts, or a shirtless Kirk. If your lucky, you may get a glimpse at a topless Spock. But that Vulcan babe (T'pal?) was really putting on the steam, and those camera shots were super-suggestive!

According to Gene Roddenberry, Klingons have always looked like TNG Klingons. In TOS, they just didn't have the budget to show Klingons properly.

Dreaming my arse off. Also, crutch-girl isn't as lesbian as she thinks she is. She should get over herself.

We taped it all last night. Wife was out, and my kids aren't allowed to watch Friends.
I read that "Inside Schwartz" was a waste of time, so didn't even think to turn it on. I figure if something really good, people will start watching, and it will stay on, and I'll catch the reruns.

Was ST:E on last night? Is it repeated this week? As for new species never categorized before: planet-ocide. Borg-like efficiency, or that other thing...big crystal thing, the crystalline entity? Or sun nova-ing. Or that thing Kirk destroyed with the help of William Windom.

A No One: Will and Grace is not funny. Doesn't deserve the coveted 9:00 spot.

I saw bits of Frasier the other night, analyzing himself by conjuring up Diane and Lilith. Wondering where all the short-term girlfriend/guest-stars were. Not enough room in the car, I guess.

Back to the original thread - I'm looking forward to Stringfield's return as well, but wonder if her character will cause distractions for Dr. Greene and his new family - I hope not, because I like where they've taken him.

"In TOS, they just didn't have the budget to show Klingons properly."

But that's the thing about Star-Trek: the writers are notorious for their accuracies. They would never give up that easily.

There was an episode of DS9 where Worf and the crew go back in time to Kirk's Enterprise. They used clips from "Trouble with Tribbles", and fused them with new footage (it was pretty cool, but I digress). Anyway, Worf says :"Here are the Klingons", pointing to the Bushy-Eyebrowed folk. The others point out that they don't LOOK like Klingons. Worf tells them that it was a troubling part of their history and he would rather not talk about it.

So it seems that the Klingon cranial ridges skipped a couple of generations.

<font size=2>The way I've heard their justifications, the original Klingons are to be considered a different "kind". Sort of like if aliens were watching a TV show about earthlings and for a while the only shows they had were "Lucy" and "Honeymooners". One day, they see an episode of "Good Times" and think, "What the heck are those things? They certainly don't look like the humans we're used to seeing! There must be something wrong with our monitors." But of course we know better.

Saw parts of Frazier too. That's another show that is no longer funny.

I don't think there is any show that is still funny. Ally premiers in Oct. That one is gone, too!

Yeah, what's with Dr. Weaver? Suddenly she is a lesbian!

Damn, Dirty Ape
09-28-2001, 04:18 PM
Hey Mister, That's kinda what I thought as well. But the problem with that theory is that Kahless in the original series was bushy-eyebrowed, while in TNG, he had the ridges.

And, yes, I am a total Star-Trek geek, (but I DON'T go to the conventions), so don't bother bringing that up!

"Yeah, what's with Dr. Weaver? Suddenly she is a lesbian"

Apparently, you haven't watched the last half of last year's season!

They dedicated way too much air-time to the issue. During sweeps week, they had a 5 minute-long scene where she is standing in the rain, trying to decide to go home or see this lesbian girl, blah blah blah.
She is a lesbian. Big deal. Move on, writers! No more shock value in that!

Dr T Non-Fan

You must have missed all last season. Crutchy-girl (Weaver) was all over the on-call Psych-dyke (don't recall her name, but this works for me). The psych-dyke was fired last season for something lesbian-related (sorry, didn't watch the reruns), and Crutchy-Girl up and leaves in a huff.

Crutchy-Girl wasn't ready to be full-blown gay. With all the baggage. She was told to accept it by some of Psych-dyke's friends.

Yeah, I didn't watch much last season. Maybe 10 minutes each show. I quit when they gave Dr. Greene brain tumor and then made him well. So now that he is leaving the show is the brain tumor going to come back and kill him?

I think I recall some thingy with Dr. Weaver and the Psych-lesbian. But I thought she told her she is not that kind. Oh well, after Ellen, lesbian-thing is no more shocking. Even girl-girl kissing...been done in Ally, Friends...???

I'm waiting for Boston Public. I hope it will be as good this year as last year.

I saw last part of 'Inside Shwartz'. Don't waste your time. 'Just Shoot Me' ain't that good either. No more must see TV nights?

Slim pickin'!

"""Now, on to another show.....Friends! So, so...who was Rachel dating last that could be the father of the baby? I can't remember. """

Oh no!! Did I miss the season opener?

I read somewhere that they were going to drag it out, with 4 possibilities for Daddy: Ross, Tag, Joey and Gunther - and slowly narrow it down over the season -

I hate it when they do that!

I've also been wondering if/how Friends will address the 9-11 atrocities - being set in the heart of New York City and all. Would be difficult though - can't make it funny - too disrespectful - can't make it too serious - it's a comedy - shouldn't just ignore it ... what to do?

Yes, T, you missed the season opener and no, you didn't miss much. It was just the wedding reception of Monica. Then for a while Pheobe pretended to be pregnanat to cover up for Rachel but Monica figured it out later that it was Rachel. As of now, only the two women know.

Is Tag the young assistant of Rachel at work?
Gunther, the guy at the Cafe? Nooo....

I can see them dragging it through a few episodes. She could also have a miscarriage(a very convenient way to get rid of a baby-storyline like in soap operas). Maybe not an abortion. Too controversial.

The Mister

<font size=2>OK, so... does *Rachel* know? Or was she just particularly slutty that month?

Bonnie
09-29-2001, 12:31 PM
I hope the daddy is Brad Pitt!

Actually, I thought she and Brad were "trying" and the baby storyline was put in there in case she actually got pregnant.

My guess is it will probably work out to be Ross'. At least we know he can father a child.

If it's Ross or Joey, that would be pretty hokey, since they would have been sleeping together without it ever entering any other plot lines. I thought the premier was pretty funny, though.

Agree that Just Shoot Me isn't funny. I've never watched Raymond, but they just started showing the reruns locally here. Saw part of what must have been one of the first few episodes. It was like Just Shoot Me in its prime - really stupid the whole time, with one joke so funny I laughed out loud.

"Psych-dyke" - that's amusing. Not very P.C., but struck me funny.

Inside Shwartz was just as bad as other crappy shows they've tried to stick into the "must see TV" line-up (e.g., Veronica's Closet, The Single Guy). Didn't laugh, didn't chuckle, didn't even smile.

I hope the father turns out to be Chandler.
Now that would be Must-see TV.

Traci
10-01-2001, 02:18 PM
That would be pretty "must see" if it were Chandler!

Prediction 1: There will be an episode where they tease us into thinking it could be Gunther - in the end he will wake up from a dream.

Prediction 2: There will be an episode where they tease us into thinking it could be Ross - then another one with Joey. Both of which will be false alarms. (Example: Joey and Rachel wake up in the same bed after a big party - can't remember if anything happened ...)

Prediction 3: It will be Tag (the office boy) - but he will be out of the picture - so Ross will step in and marry her.

According to the commercial, they say who the father is this Thursday.

Damn, Dirty Ape

My money's on Monica's dad.

Anyone catch SNL? I thought Guliani did a pretty good job setting up the mood for the show.
Lorne Michaels: So it's okay for us to do the show?
Guliani: Yes.
Michaels: Can we be funny?
Gulinani: Why start now?

The farting baby skit, I just didn't get it.

The Little Mermaid (played by Reese Witherspoon) was pretty funny:

Ariel (singing): I've done it with a tuna
I've gone down on a shark
There's videos of me
with a manatee...

They had another "Celebrity Jeopardy", which was okay:
Sean Connery : I'll have "Whore Semen" for 200, Trebek.
Alex Trebek: What?
Sean Connery: It says so right there! "Whore", like your mother, and "Semen"!
Alex Trebek: That's "Horsemen"!

"""According to the commercial, they say who the father is this Thursday."""

Prediction 4: They will not reveal the father on Thursday. It's at least 2 more episodes away.

Actually, if chandler's dad was the father that would make a hell of a television season.

Traci
10-01-2001, 02:52 PM
WOW!

My latest prediction: They are probably still scrambling to refilm the next couple of episodes.

If you can believe anything on the net, that is.

After I made my predictions, I went looking around the net to see if there were any websites with spoilers. I found one.

If there was any truth to it - there is no way they could ever show the episode (#3): It begins with Monica and Chandler arguing about how early to get to the airport to leave for their honeymoon. Then at the airport Chandler makes a joke about a bomb and airport security detains them. THEN there is a later comment about the building exploding. If it was a real episode (and it sounded feasible and funny - BEFORE September 11) it's on the cutting room floor now.

here's the site:

http://www.friendsforever.co.za/news.htm

Could be just junk though.

"Jumping the shark", at least according to the people who put this site together, is when a show peaks and then begins its inevitable decline. You can see if you agree with their assessment of when your favorite shows jumped the shark.

I tried to watch two new shows this season: Scrubs and Bob Patterson. Waste of time, I think. Not funny.

Drew Carey stopped being funny 2 years ago(although, this season ,he will become svelte.). Dharma and Greg sometimes makes me laugh. I have not seen its season premiere. Spin City...nah!

Well, that's it for comedy must see TV!

d*mn, Dirty Ape,

Lets see, how many solutions can I dream up in 60 seconds
1) They have introduced serious biological modification with the shape changing-chameleon species. Maybe they genetically enhance the Klingons also. Some time later, the Klingons will repent their genetically modified ways.
2) The shape changing-chameleon species is taking orders from the future, perhaps we see a time line rift where Klingons evolve slightly differently.
3) Perhaps there is a racial divide within the Klingon empire. The Klingon race that is dominant during TOS gets banished to Rura Pente for their continuous faluries against the haymaker throwing Kirk.
4) sorry my time ran out.

Here's another I just couldn't muster up the desire to watch: the one with Jim Belushi. "Training Jim" or something. He's married to -- get this -- Courtney Thorne Smith! And he plays a big idiot in the show! What are the odds of that happening in real life? A basic copy of E.L.R. Network guys in general have no imagination (that they're confident in).
Just a bit of a believable premise. That's all I ask.
