This is my second annual quest to find good volunteers for EA exam writing and review. Hopefully many of you are in the process of getting your enrollment applications processed, or know someone who has and may be interested in this. It's really important that we get good people writing exam questions so that the exam quality improves.

Here's your chance to "give something back" and help to improve the quality of the EA exams at the same time. I've been contacted by Sally Zavattari, who is one of the people involved in the preparation of the EA exams, asking whether I know of anyone interested in writing questions for the November, 2005, EA-2A exam. In particular she is looking for someone who preferably has a small plan background, and would be a committee member for ASPA. The committee is composed of both ASPA and SOA representatives, and the ASPA representatives tend to have more of a small plan perspective. This is important so that the exam does not become overweight with large plan issues. If this doesn't fit your profile or interest, they are also always looking for someone to pre-test exams.

Note that in order to be on a committee or pre-test, you need to have your EA designation. That may not fit many of you, but for those of you who are still taking exams, keep it in mind for the future.

The current exam writing schedule for the November 2005 exam begins this month, and lasts through November or December. There is one meeting at a location that has not yet been determined, probably in November.

For being an item writer, there is about a 15 to 20 hour commitment to writing and reviewing questions, as well as the one-day meeting.

Note that this qualifies for continuing education credit.

If you are interested in either pre-testing or being an item writer, you can contact Sally Zavattari via e-mail at sally@asgpension.com.

It would be great to get some people involved in this who have experience sitting for recent exams and can bring a fresh look at this so that the exams can be improved.

I'll second Dave's suggestion to join one of the EA exam writing committees. I just served for the first time on the EA2,B committee (writing the Spring 2005 exam) and had a great experience. Writing questions keeps you sharp on various points which are actually useful at work. The other committee members were easy to work with and you make some good connections. And, you get EA credits! I strongly recommend participating on a committee.
