1) Do companies offer sponsorships(H-1B)for
the entry level candidates? I'm a May2002(Expected)Graduate, first four CAS exams done but no experience.

Recruiters seem less interested in entry
level students and even lesser in those who
require sponsorships.

Should i apply directly to companies? What are my prospects of getting an H-1B?

2) Is there any searchable database(s) for Large(P&C)Insurance companies with significant international operations, which can sponsor employees for permanent work visas?? I've already tried SoA membership directory, wrote to a number of fellows and associates, they all replied that we've sent your resume to the hiring authorities, but no replies afterwards.

Should i keep sticking to it?

Thanks in advance

I work for a very large P&C and we do not, or at least have not as of yet, sponsor international candidates. I have tried on several occasions to get my company to consider trying this out, but heretofore have had no luck convincing the HR department of the benefits. This is in spite of the fact that we have not met our recruiting goals for at least the last couple years.

They basically don't seem to think it's work the time or money involved - I find that hard to believe. I have seen some excellent candidates when I've been out recruiting. Plus we have a couple international students in our program (both didn't need sponsorship) and they're both excellent actuarial students.

I'm not sure where to send you, but my guess is you might have better luck with a consulting operation or in the reinsurance sector, as they are international in focus. Most US-based P&C companies are really still US-focused, although that is changing S-L-O-W-L-Y.

Good luck...

I work for another large P&C company. We have sponsored actuarial students on work visas, and will probably do so again. Another P&C company I've worked for sponsored lots of actuarial students. So it does happen.

But. . . We prefer not to. It's expensive, time consuming, and can limit what roles we can put the employee in. "Needs visa" plus headhunter fee is a bad combination. (It doesn't totally rule out a candidate, but it hurts.) I suggest you try to find a job on your own.

Good luck.

Ditto to Lucy's post.

If you're a strong enough candidate, we'd hire you.
