In his paper on “The Public Policy Imperative”, the Commissioner of Insurance, Israel Kamuzora, named the weaknesses of the industry as lack of historical data on insurance regulations in Tanzania for desired long-term planning and other supervisory activities.
Others are shortage of supervisory staff in some areas, especially fields of risk management, financial examination and actuarial science, inadequate application of information communication technology in insurance business and low level of insurance awareness by members of the public.
