What's the deal with this? What is it? Did you download it? Is it useless without the software you have to purchase to run the program, or is there written material you can get some use out of without buying the software?

I took the pretest already. You can open the file as a text file and it looks like garbage, but there are sections that are text blocks. I cut and pasted these text blocks to another file and it went from about 400 pages to about 10 and I definitely got the necessary points from reading the 10 pages of text. I kept those in the file during the pretest.

Do we need to read through the interactive workbook in order to pass the exam? Did anyone pass it without using it?

Yes, there is information about long term care benefits that is of an educational nature in the workbook and there can be questions on the pre-test about that. (I've already taken it). But you don't need to actually complete the computer exercises that the workbook tells you to do (they don't ask you questions about the results of the exercises.) That's why I suggest if you don't want to buy the software, you open the file as a text file. pm me if you want me to email you the text extract I made.

You can get the mathreader from Wolfram (Mathematica) for free to view the file.

I passed and never looked at that thing. Don't overdo it on the pre-test. I read through the material once, tabbed everthing for easy reference, and took the practice pretest included with the notes. There were actually 7 questions on the test that were copied verbatim from the practice pretest, which were part of the study notes that I brought into the exam.

Frankly, I thought it was easy.

How much time should you spend for the prep of the Course 7 seminar?

Kitty,

I have a copy of the the LTD study note in word format (It took me about an hour to format it in a presentable manner in word taking out the irrelevant coding and leaving in all the good stuff - 18 pages in length).....I'm willing to send it to you....just pm me with your e-mail address.

Just wondering though, I bought the SNs about 10 months ago and noticed that the only new SNs that I need are

7P-43-04
7P-44-04
7P-45-04

I was wondering if you would be willing to mail a copy of these to me (in return). I would send you my address in a pm. Or anyone else would be willing to send me a copy. (I'm willing to pay for them if I need to)

Thanks

I am in the same boat, although I have a copy of 7P-43-04

I'm kicking myself for not checking the catalog. Anybody know if these additional notes re (44 and 45) are all that large?

I'm not going to get to them before the exam. But I do want to know what percentage of the material I will be missing.

They're pretty big, actually. One of data quality which you can probably figure out for yourself, and one on the actuarial control cycle. There might be a lot of questions from the latter one since it's new and a big part of the 2005 exam system. At least that's what Mr. Mocciolo thinks.

In another thread I think somebody said the "Fall 2004" version of the Actex covers the new study notes. I ordered mine on July 30th (thinking I'd take it in Oct, decided on Dec instead) and they were not in there. When did the new version come out?

Hello there. Someone in my office alerted me to this thread, I thought I would check in.

It's true, the Actex 2004 manual has been updated to coincide with the revised syllabus. I believe the first administration of the pre-test using the new syllabus was the Oct pre-test. For a period, Actex maintained both manuals, since it was unclear whether those ordering would be doing so for the Aug pre-test or the Oct pre-test. In fact, this question should have been posed to those ordering, if the order was placed by telephone. I am not sure about those orders placed over the internet, if there was an option to select the desired version or not.

If you feel that you were erroneously shipped the old version, I would call the office and check it out. They are very friendly. I do think it would be beneficial to have the new manual, since the newer study notes are important and since there is extensive coverage of the CD-rom as well as alot of additional practice questions covering the new readings.

Good luck on the test.

Nick

Nick - Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I ordered by internet at the end of July (July 30th, so obviously not taking the August test!) and was not aware that there were two version. I was not aware of the new version until yesterday, actually, and since the test is on Friday, I guess I'm S.O.L. Maybe I should complain and they'll refund part of my money. Don't see how I can get the new version now in time to do me any good for Friday.

Call Actex and ask for Tammy. I just spoke with them about this. They said they can track your order in the system and if it was their error they can overnight you a copy of the new manual.

That would leave you with one night to prepare for the new material ... not ideal, but better than nothing. Hope it works out.

Rgds

I ordered through the Actuarial Bookstore, not directly from Actex. I called the place I ordered from and they said for some reason they weren't notified about the new version until about a month ago. (They aren't sure how that happened since they said they talk to Actex basically daily and should have been informed right away.) They are being very nice about it though, and are going to try to overnight me a copy. Thanks again for your help Nick. Of course I read and highlighted what I thought was important, but it will be nice to have the guide and have time to take at least one practice exam that covers the material.

I'm preparing C7 Pretest. I found a lot of information about the exam posted by you. They really help me a lot! Thank you for these information!
