I was just wondering how many people are like me, meaning, not a morning person. Getting up for these exams and trying to be at peak mental condition at 8:30 is a real hinderance for my exam progress. I would like to see what the prevailing preference is as to when exams are offered. With morning being 8:30, afternoon being approximately 12 noon, please vote in this poll. Thanks for your help.

I am not a morning person either but at that point I just want to get the exam over with so I will vote for morning.

I just really hate our 9:30 to 1:30 time slots and am glad no one is strict about the no food thing. I'm hypoglycemic!

I agree about the food thing. With a 4 hour exam it is impossible for me not to get really hungry and I always bring something to eat. I have thought that if there was a proctor who was an annoying stickler about the no eating rule, then I would definitely fail that exam. The SOA should do away with that rule and replace it with no eating any loud and annoying food.
And I really like taking an exam in the afternoon because I can never sleep the night before. Having it later gives me a better shot at getting a good nights sleep.

I like afternoon as it will take me 2 hours to get to my exam...and on crowded trains... So I would like to have a regular nights sleep first...
Oh well..

Mine was at 1:00 this time - I definitely would have preferred morning.
1:00 is NAP TIME! :viola:

I trust you got the location figured out?
Good luck!

People eat carrot sticks, which is really annoying. Others munch on doritos, potato chips, etc. which is also really annoying.
As for time, I also hate the 9:30 to 1:30 time. I am used to lunch around 11:00. Personally, I would like early morning to get it over with.

Morning, morning, morning. I wish the CAS exams were from 8:30 to 12:30 like the SOA.
I remember some of the afternoon exams (old 2, 4A & 5B) and the morning of the afternoon exams were just brutal! You don't know what to do with yourself. If you study all morning, you'll be burned out by the afternoon! If you don't study, you feel guilty.
The 9:30 to 1:30 time frame isn't ideal, either. By 1:30, I'm starving. Once all the post-exam stuff gets complete, we don't get out of there until after 2:00 or so. By the time we sit down & eat, it's 2:30! Major hunger. If I could have it my way, I'd have 8:30 to 12:30. :)

How about both - like Course 5 and above. 8:30 to 11:30 and 1:00 to 3:00. You get the best (or worst) of both worlds, but at least you get a lunch break!
When I took the shorter exams, I always preferred morning times. I am more focused in the morning, and like to get started sooner because it means I'll be done sooner!

I am at my best mentally in the AM, but I get really hungry! I'm an early bird - usually up by about 5:30, and lunchtime is 11:00. So even the 4 hours starting at 8:30 have me insanely hungry by the end. I always try to take a granola bar or something to eat right before I start the exam. Of course, by the time the prelim stuff is done, it's already 9, so we never actually get out of there until about 1:30. If there were more people taking exams in my area, I'd be suggesting lunch dates afterward

I am by no stretch of the imagination a morning person, but i would rather write an exam in the morning (if i stay up late studying the night before, I can still function in the morning, but by 6 or 7pm, my brain is completely fried and I can't think...and I hate waking up to study the day of an exam).
btw, how come you all can eat in your exams?? I brought food the first time (at school i always ate in my exams- something to do with stresds relief), and they said "only bottled water".
Last sitting they took the pack of gum off my desk - I was not impressed, because it takes me almost a full pack to get through the exam(stress related)...

I believe the CAS is a bit more laissez faire about food in exams than the SOA is. The SOA used to be pretty loose about it, but apparently, no more.
(You never know. Someone might write a critical formula in the icing on their Tastee Kake!)

Or diagram key formulas with the salt on their crackers. I know I'm a big fan of hiding my gaussian motion formulas with the swirls of creamer in my coffee...
