How much time have people spent on this paper? It's pretty long and he seems to repeat himself a good bit. It's written pretty well, save the fact that he re-re-reemphasizes things a lot, making it so long. I've read the article, gone through the All 10, and made notes, so I'm finished with it, for now at least. I'm just wondering how much time others have spent on this one. Thanks.

Oh, I also three-hole-punched it. Make my new total 6 minutes.

If you focus on the mathematical procedures you'll have the paper adequately covered. When you work through past problems you'll see certain types of recurring questions. Master those and you'll do OK.

I downloaded it.

Geez, I'm behind the crowd already.

Now that everyone is focusing on Numerical types, I would be very pleased to see CAS throwing few Essay pointers from this paper into the exam.

You just never know, in past they have asked few essay questions too and given the recent tradition of CAS asking relatively more essay questions in last few sittings of Part5 & 6, i'm not going to risk anything out from this reading.

Good luck

I estimate on average 6 to 7% of your exam will come from Feldblum W.C.
That makes Feldblum W.C. among the most important readings.

Ratemaking by McClenahan has about 13%.
Webb, et. al. has perhaps 7 to 8%.

All the above figures are estimated expected averages.
Values vary from exam to exam.
Also some exam questions can be or need to be answered from more than one source.

P.S. When Sholom was in the process of writing the paper, I read drafts of the whole thing 3 or 4 times through. Sholom's paper covers a lot of material, almost all of which will be useful to those who will do W.C. Ratemaking. It is a very good paper in my opinion. Of course it would be nice if it were updated and edited.

Thanks to all who responded intelligently. I agree that it's a good, informative, well written paper. It simply seems a bit redundant in places, making it lengthier than it ought to be, IMO. Upward and onward.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sholum Feldblum exam papers. Most are like this. The only one I can think of that was actually bad was removed from the syllabus. But he does have a tendency to meander. A lot. I give him lots of credit though, for the willingness to write these things, which are generally much easier to learn from than journal papers that were not written for a student audience.

Part of the paper covers topics explained elsewhere in the syllabus (such as on-level factors). So not only is there less to memorize it acts as a "study manual" for some of the other readings (as do most other Feldblum notes).

Sholom is writing a CAS textbook on WC. If you think his ratemaking paper is big ...

Ostensibly 3 volumes of around 500 pages each. He takes some of his notes from his rough drafts :)

Half of the 3rd volume will be devoted to footnotes....

By special request, footnotes are now in a separate 2-volume set ;)

Darn, I was hoping to rely on All10 for this monster but I guess it's worthwhile to trudge through the whole thing. Can anyone who's read it and has All10 provide a quick review of how well All10 covers the more important topics?
