So I was watching the Simpsons tonight. It was the one where the Simpson kids are taken away and sent to live with Ned because they seem to be living in a pigsty. One of the offenses listed was "Toilet paper hung in improper overhand fashion". Got me thinking. I happen to like it that way. What about you?
I remember hearing that this topic was discussed ad nauseum somewhere about a decade ago. Back in the days when toilet paper used to have floral patterns or whatever on it, the pattern was only visible if the paper came over the top of the roll. But anybody with a rambunctious pet knows that paper coming over the top usually leads to a roll of toilet paper unravelled on the floor. (If the paper comes out the bottom and the pet "spins" the roll, it just goes around and around but doesn't unravel.)
Thus, it sounds like having the paper come out from under the bottom of the roll is the "correct" way, but toilet paper manufacturers got it wrong when they put floral printing on TP. Of course, now in our safety-conscious world where we wouldn't dream of using anything by white, unscented, hypo-allergenic TP on our precious hynies, the whole "floral print" argument is moot. I don't think there's anything more to be said on this topic, so I guess this thread can die, and I can be credited with the quick and merciful kill.

Over the top, but my wife doesn't bother putting it on the roll; just leaves it sitting on top of the empty tube. (Sorry, 42.)
Over the top. I used to put it under the bottom, but hubby said it should be over the top. Since he is the boss of me, I do as he says.

Top is right. That's why hotels have their employees put that little triangle fold on the paper - the fold won't work if the paper comes off the bottom.

Oh, that's smart. I'll have to try that for my rambunctious Max! :)

For some reason, we never had a problem with any of the pets unrolling it. But now, no matter which way it is, my daughter still enjoys unrolling it all over the floor.

Give me your pets' e-mail addresses. My cat will have a talk with them.

What a silly thread. Everyone knows over the top is the correct way.

Everybody but the people who clean the restrooms in office buildings. <sigh>Our building's restroom toilet dispensers have an extra deep area to put an extra roll so that there is a replacement.
The people who clean our restrooms put this extra roll sideways, like the roll in front of it. But when you do this it restricts an existing full roll from turning freely and the TP tears at 2 or 3 squares. If they would stand the extra roll up then it doesn't cause the same restriction. :swear:
