What are your favorite soccer teams? And Why?
Mine are:
1. Germany (Always like the German team. They are true professional.)
2. England (Michael Owen and David Beckham rock!)
3. Holland (Very polite players. Unfortunately, they are out this time.)
4. France (Good team, though disappointing performance so far.)
5. Brazil (Entertaining players. Very fast and talented.)

My favorite team is the US. No particular reason other than patriotism. I like England because they are allies of the US, and they have interesting players. I like Italy too, one reason being that whenever I play a soccer video game, I always play as Italy. Not exactly sure why.
My favorite club team is DC United, because I like watching Marco Etcheverry play. I used to have the MLS season package on the dish, but don't anymore: I just don't have the time to watch the games. Maybe when I'm done with exams..

When it gets to semifinals, I'll check to see which team has the history of more sportsmanship. I'll also take into account the teams' number of World Cup championships thus far (fewer is better; none is best). I'll also take into acount historical warfare between the teams' countries.
Finally, I'll check the colors of the uniforms.
Since I want a better refereed tournament, I'd like to see Japan and South Korea out early.
Until then, it's the US, regardless of its manners, colors, history.

Favourite Teams:
1. Germany
2. England
3. Ireland
My reasons are:
1. I have family and friends from each of these countries.
2. Each team plays a disciplined style of football(soccer) and they don't play dirty.
Teams I hate:
1. Italy - They play dirty and they bring their opera onto the field. Also, the arrogance of saying they are going to win it all is something else.
2. Argentina - Great players and a great soccer nation but what a bunch of primadonnas.

I agree with most of your statements. Even though I feel sorry for them, I think Argentina deserves to be kicked out early. Interestingly, in 1998, I wished that the arrogant Brazilians lost to the French, and they did! Served them right! Hope they learn their lesson this time.
I also think that most European teams play clean and entertaining soccer.

I find it difficult to follow national sides, since they tend to be pretty fluid (as in who's playing this match). I follow my favorite club team via the net - Celtic. Can't stand the 'gers. It'll be interesting to see if these 2 make the jump to the Premier League.

They won't go the Premier League soon will they? It seems to me that UEFA is dead set against allowing that. It does seem inevitable that will happen, but something has to change first. That would create complications for all the club competions in Europe.

I misspoke, they would be headed to the First Division, but both would likely move up to the Premiership quickly. Discussions (http://www.soccernet.com/england/news/2002/0513/20020513oldfirmupdate.html) appear to be under way, and who knows where they'll lead. UEFA hasn't ruled it out, but clearly such a move will hamper either side in qualifying for Champions League play.
The SPL isn't very competitive, and would probably benefit somewhat in that area if the move goes through.

I like Germany best but don't really think in terms of national teams. My absolute clear favorite is Bayern Munich, which I assume is what lfc means by 'the best club in the world'. It certainly can't be Man U, which is struggling this year. :viola: :toast:

You can bet I'm jacked that the Bhoys first leg victory over Celta Vigo in the UEFA Cup. The Celta manager dissed them after the game as "unimpressive". Blackburn said the same thing, and were sent packing.
I agree with the Skipper about ManU. Even if I didn't hate 'em nearly as much as the 'gers, they're taking some lumps this year. 'bout time.

I have not decided on my favorite team yet. Perhaps, Cruz Azul or the Chivos.

Is that the sport where the chicks wail on each other?
Oh. no, that's Foxy Boxing.
Never mind.

Larsson out with a broken leg, Hartson suspended, and Rab Douglas seeing his first match action in net this year - and Celtic still takes the first leg, 3-1!!!
LFC, I believe we are scheduled to meet in the next round, if both get through.

Tulsa Roughnecks.
This actuary thing is only because my plans of being an NASL star, ala Georgio Chinaglia, fell through.

Where did LFC go? Happen to see who went through to the UEFA finals? If the Hoops treat it as road game, they've got a chance!
