Did you read "Hunted Down" by Charles Dickens? I heard about it from some actuarial newsletter awhile ago but just had a chance to read it today. I have to say that it was not as good as I expected. The story has its charm and excitement, but it's too short to produce any lasting effect and too unrealistic.

Anyway, the reason that actuaries talked about this story is that it involves an actuary, romance, crime and revenge. Actuaries and romance? This combination in itself is totally unrealistic!

I read it when it came out in Contingencies. It was fun to read, but not any where near the best of Dickens (which is why you never see it).

What I found really bizarre was that it was apparently loosely based on a true story!

If only the great Bulwer-Lytton (of "It was a dark and stormy night" fame) had completed his planned novel on the topic, as referenced in the article!
