With all the demographic questions asked so far, I can't believe this one hasn't come up.

You do know that there are people who have more than one pet out there?

Jeez, I accidently hit 'submit' and before I can go back and fix it, they're all over me.

Do spouses and children count? Do they if I spank them?

I think with this particular question, spanking isn't an issue. Now perhaps if you chain your spouse up somewhere, give her food and water, with treats if she's good, then you might have something to consider here.

I said 5, but I'm not counting our three fish-plant-things, since it takes so little to care for them.

three fish-plant-thingsOzric, Jr.'s science project? Not quite... a fish-plant-thing is a glass pitcher filled with water, a few pebbles, one betta fish, and a plant on top. The fish feeds (mostly) on the roots of the plant, and the plant feeds (mostly) on - um - well, what the fish discards.
Once a week we feed the fish (the plant can't provide everything), and every few weeks we clean out the pitcher... times three.

Ah. I thought you were doing a little at-home genetic engineering.

The number in our household changes continually.
The 2 cats died in the past year. The fish died last year.
The 2 dogs were left behind by two graduated nestlings (coop-fliers?).
Now the two youngest are into collecting caterpillars. Then there's the 2-year-old grandson who has taken up residence ... :viola:

Never count vermin as pets :) They like to be around you, take a bite here and there, but they can survive either way.
I didn't count crabs when I answered this survey :)

I know it was there when I built it - since that's how I voted.
Note the % does not add up, I think the option is lost somewhere.

just one for us. a cat.
he's 7 now, and I can't help but recall the jealousy I had for the friend who had a great dane when he told me it would likely only be 6 years before it died. I love the cat, but sometimes the great dane thing sounds appealing.

I use to have 17 cats (mostly kittens), my wife didn't like it very much. So now I have only 3, the mother cat and two boys (small litter). The Dad...well lets just say, my girl kitty has sowed her oats with as many Toms as she could. May be she knew her time was coming(snip-snip).

Nomar the Goldfish, RIP
10/4/03 - 10/21/03
Nomar, I found you floating atop the tank,
And not swimming in the pirate ship that sank,
Just like my beloved Sox, you died, you died,
Petco said you were healthy (they lied, they lied!)
Your spirit lives on from a watery grave,
And I insist that your brothers remain brave,
In my mind Nomar, you're always a winnah,
But prepare to be a sewer rat's dinnah.
You gave me great times, oh dearest fishy,
But why not croak in the 2-week guarantee?

I'm thinking about adding a few fish to the pet list. Not sure how little snot, (the kitty) would react. Also how long can you leave fish without attending to them. The kitty can easily go a weekend if i make a trip to the rents.

To be fair, I purchased him on the 4th... who knows when he was born. Maybe he just died of old age...

Where can one get one of these setups, are they each in a sepearte bowl, or in one larger tank?

Jables, do you use water conditioner to get rid of the chlorine and amonia? Sometimes they are already sick in the tank at Petco. If the last guy doesn't seem to be doing good, you can put him with some water in the freezer. Supposedly it hurts them less to die that way.

Just keep him away from the fish sticks. And the popsicles, for your own sake.

Yes, I have some kind of water conditioning product, and I've been changing the water a bit at a time since the two died. Good news is that G-Unit has dodged a bullet and is still swimming happily...
