I'm going to be taking the Micro CLEP test (not for VEE, but actually for college credit). Has anyone else taken it? How is it?
It's been a while (May) since I took C2, so I might be a bit rusty.
I took a practice test, and got 78% (50% is passing). At least the practice test is easy, but I have found that they are not very typical of the actual test.

Just kind of curious as to I should study much for it.

For those interested in taking it themselves, I'll take it Tuesday and reply here how it went.

Also, I'll be taking the macro test too, in a couple weeks. That one might be tougher, as I really stank in macro.:wall:

[FYI, I originally posted this in the General forum, because I didn't realize that this was here.]

Twins Fan, what have you used to prepare yourself for CLEP? Have you used Instantcert?

I have a book that has a sample test for all of the CLEP tests. I just took that sample test, and I did quite well on it, so I'm just going through my Price Theory textbook book that I used for C2.

Normally, though, I use the REA study guides for my CLEP tests. I have found them to be pretty good, and I like the software that is in some of them like what was in a U.S. History study guide.

I am using Theory of Price too. What are you going to use for Macro? I have looked ar REA Study guides, they do not have anything for Micro-Macro. Also at the begining of the CLEP exam, they ask you for the address where you want the result to be sent. Do you want to give them SOA address?

I pretty much just have to review the terms, and then I think that I'll be ready for that, but it won't be easy.
Also at the begining of the CLEP exam, they ask you for the address where you want the result to be sent. Do you want to give them SOA address? As I said [I think] before, I already passed C2, so I already have the Economics credit, so I am just sending the data to my college.

I took a couple of CLEP tests when I was in college. They are mostly an absolute joke. I read the boldfaced words from a random textbook for like a week before and aced them.

Can you use a CLEP exam to satisfy a VEE requirement?

Can you use a CLEP exam to satisfy a VEE requirement?Yes, for Micro and Macro. However, I haven't seen anywhere that the SOA has released what scores exactly are needed, so it would be kind of hard to prepare for them.

I took the Micro test, and it was fairly easy. As I took a different 1.5 hour test, then studied for 1.5 hours, then took the 1.5 hour Micro test, my brain was pretty much drained. I was mostly just fighting myself to focus.

If you have been decently prepared for the Course 2, you shouldn't have much problem with the CLEP test.

Good luck.:)

You need to score at least 53% on computer-based exam or 47% on paper-based to satisfy SOA.

TwinFan, were you allowed to bring scratch paper and a calculator? Did they tell you how many times you can retake the test in case you do not like the score?

What was your score if it is nor a secret?

You need to score at least 53% on computer-based exam or 47% on paper-based to satisfy SOA.Actual percentage, or do you mean scaled score? I've never seen a percentage score for CLEP. (FYI, they are scaled between 20 and 80.)

They provide you with scratch papter. You aren't allowed to bring a calculator. (Don't worry - about 80-90% of the questions are just conceptual, and even the math ones are like reading charts and stuff.)

You have to wait 6 months between tests.

I got a score of 71.

Yes it is 53 points (or whatever they call it), not %...

TwinsFan, let us know when you take the macro test. I did pass micro too, and I am studing for macro. I am curious if those macro notes will be enough for this test. Let us know how hard the test was. Good luck if you have not taken it yet.

Actually, I'm not sure now if I will be taking the Macro test.
I am going to me maxed out on CLEP tests (the college only accepts so many credits), so I think that I'll take it, since it should be a pretty easy college class anyways.
I'll post back here once I decide for sure.

Good luck!

FWIW, I took the macro CLEP several years ago for college credit. With only a half semester highschool class several years prior I skimmed over a friends college text in about 45 minutes and passed. I remember that I didn't ace it or anything, but I remember the test being very straight forward.

Congrats Salena that you got Micro credit now. How was the exam? How would you compare the questions w.r.to SOA past exams for Micro? I'm also planning to do this and wud appreciate any help. Thanks.

What is meant by computer based? Is this something you can do online from home or something? Or do you have to find a test center and go in to write?

Thanks!

I think you should find a test center and schedule a test with them. It will be a computer-based test by default. Check this link.

The exam was easy...lot easier then Micro or Macro part of SOA 2 exam. I also took Macro test a couple weeks later and passed it too. They are very straight forward exams. Unfortunately they do not have a test for Corporate Finance, so I will have to deal with that another way. If you go to www.collegeboard.com we can get a sample CLEP test for $10.00. If you answer 65-70% of the questions right, it is time to take a real test...But if you fail we have to wait 6 month to take another one.
Good Luck!

thanks! Sounds like the best option for eco to me! Too bad they don't have a test centre really close to me though. But I think it would be worth a drive.

Thanks to all who posted before--I took your advice and did the Micro CLEP last week. This is without a doubt the way to get Economics credit--quick 90 minute exam and you get your score immediately. I had done well on this piece on the old Course 2, but the CLEP questions are different from the SOA questions--primarily in that they try to cut out the math...I guess that is to make it easier for the masses, but it confused me so I just translated everything back into charts and graphs and mathematical language and I didn't have a problem passing.
