Hi ALL!

Just wondering if anyone knows where these recruiters get our names and email addresses?

The last one said he came across my name and email while researching on the internet!

Thanks!

Maybe from the online directory at the SOA website? The directory specifically excludes this type of activity, but hey....
Why don't you post this recruiters name. And scream at him/her until you get more specifics than 'off the internet'.

<font size=2>Or, if you're really turned off by recruiters, either tell them not to call again, or hang up on them. I mean, recruiters aren't inherently evil or anything. If you're busy @ work, tell him/her so. If s/he resists your invitation to move on, then s/he isn't a good recruiter.

If the recruiter did use the SOA directory information against the stated wishes of the SOA, then that's an issue, but there are numerous other potential sources available, though I couldn't tell you which one(s) your pal might have used. Google might've been one.

Of course if you're not an ASA or FSA that would preclude the SOA directory.

I also received an email indicating they "came across" my name and email doing research on the web. I returned a message requesting the site where that is located. I have not heard back. I am curious because I can't find that on the web. I tried. I am assuming the study list serve may be a source. I am registered there.

A lot of organizations sell there mailing lists to marketing firms. Do you think the SoA, CAS, AAA, etc. are above that? If the price is right. I would imagine there is some of that going on.

They don't sell their mailing lists. I wish they did.

There are other sources who may have your email:

- any seminars you attended
- maybe Actex

Dear ______ ,

I came across your name and email address while doing research on the Internet. My name is Jim _____ and I work with a 20 year old firm - I specialize in working with Actuary staffing.

I was hoping you could spare a moment and discuss with me your future plans - all would be in confidence; I work with several companies nation wide who are looking for strong actuarial candidates.

Let me know,

Thanks,

Jim

The pass list seems to be a great resource for recruiters. How many calls have you all gotten:

Rec: How did your exam go? (all knowing that you passed)

Me: Great! I passed!

Rec: Congrats! I'm sure your company is rewarding you accordingly.

Me: Well, I guess

Rec: You guess? We should talk! I have several contacts who would promote you in a heartbeat! What is your current pay?

and so forth.
