Any interest in a game tonight? I think I can make it at 7:00 central time.

An actuary I used to play with regularly face-to-face now plays with me Mondays on Bridgebase. He decided to pre-empt on a bit less than usual, at favorable vulnerabilty. The next player doubles, I think a bit and bid 4S which is passed out.

Halfway through I write "Partner, I'll be disappointed if you don't make this." Just before the end of the hand I wrote "Just kidding of course".

Partner replied, "I would have responded sooner but I couldn't stop laughing." I had been chuckling all the time too, they were cold for 620 and they only got 100.

Tournaments or general games?

Anyone interested in taking them on? :) I would be available on Mondays.

P.S. Any movement on the Week 9 hands? Could you possibly post bidding sequences and Hands?
Thanks and see you tonight.

Why did you think?

Trying to decide whether to pass or bid 3:sp: or 4:sp:

My hand isn't good enough to make game. But depending on which 5-10hcp partner has, the opponents may not be making game either. If I knew partner's pre-empts were more 'sound' I might bid 3:sp: and try to double and set 4:ht: I think my lack of decent hearts and useful cards in general prompted me to make the "prevent 4:ht: now" bid.

The doubling opponent held something like:
J
AKJxx
Axxx
Axx

and chided partner for not doubling for penalty with 9hcp. With a hand like that, I bid 3:ht: rather than doubling because I only need 3 hearts to try 4:ht:, and if partner isn't thrilled with my bid, 3:ht: may be as good as anything and 3NT is still possible.

It would be nice to have four actuaries for the regular Monday game. We had opponents bailing on us every 3 hands or so. Scott & I played regularly for 2 years and played in all the local tournaments. We start at 9:30pm Central Time - He's on the West Coast.
