Is there any US Representative who is more stupid than Julia Carson-D,IN?
I am not using stupid as in:
"Jesse Helms is stupid" (because I disagree with his positions on the issues)
or "GWB is stupid" (because he is not a polished public speaker)
or "Gary Condit is stupid" (because he handled the Levy disappearance poorly).

Can you give us some highlights of this stupidity? The name doesn't ring a bell.

Is she the one who supposedly speaks to the dead and talked to Chandra?

What struck me was not that this is what she said, but that she said it in such a way that she thought she was giving out new information.
OH, you mean stupid like george w bush!

This was the oldest thread in political. Is this rep still in office and running next week?

Yes. She was actually behind her challenger in one recent poll, and losing this seat would be a huge blow for Democrats' hopes for reclaiming the House.
That said, she'll "get out the vote," and will probably win by a comfortable margin.
(Or maybe not, since Indiana's voter ID law has survived judicial challenge.)

Why would it be a huge blow? I know nothing about her or her district, but I thought IN was a pretty firm Republican strong hold. I don't really see how one race would be big blow to either side. I mean isn't this the same state where R-Chris the count Chocola is expected to go down in flames this year?

Like every state, Indiana has its blue and red districts, and two districts are especially blue: the district including Gary (Pete Visclosky) and the district including Indianapolis (Julia Carson). Four are solidly red (Dan Burton, Mike Pence, Steve Buyer, Mark Souder). The others are considered tossups.
To lose a solidly blue district in the face of anti-Bush sentiment and without some specific scandal would be a big loss for the Democrats.

I'd like to see her in a dumb-off against Patrick Kennedy.

I have no idea but according to her website my share of the National Debt is just over $30K. http://juliacarson.house.gov/ Guess I'll need another tax cut so I can pay for that.

Considering most people seem to have no problem holding X number of loans that are payable over Y(x) number of years, $30k payable indefinitely actually doesn't seem like all that big of a deal.
Plus, does the $30k in debt take into account bondholders who are U.S. taxpayers and/or citizens? If not, then the actual share, on average, needs to be reduced by that.

Yeah but if I look at my immediate family it is like $150K and 3 of them are a few years from the work force. IIRC Gomer, you and yours are on the hook for closer to $240K. There are 6 mini-Gomers/Gomeretts right?
I think the site is just the debt/citizens.

Yeah, but I think we have, like, $500 in bonds. So fork it over.

Julia Carson was my representative for awhile. She's up there with Bobby Rush in terms of dolts in Congress. She's the classic local politician, former township chairman type of thing who has worked her way up to U.S. Representative amazingly.
Now I've got the other Democrat in Indiana with a lock on his seat, Visclosky. He seems like an OK guy, but he's a one issue guy - save steel, which of course goes over very well in his district which probably produces more steel than any in the country. He won't lose his seat until he dies or retires.
I could see Chocola going down as well. He's been in a few tight races since he won his seat a few years ago, which I think he won from a retiring Democratic congressman, so he could easily go down.

Julia Carson has also been in real poor health ever since the late 90's. She's missed hundreds of votes due to illness.
