I started studying in February and made a ton of progress. Mostly I've been reviewing the last few weeks since Actuarybert's excellent study guide came out. I still have to cover section D though.

Basically, I've hit the doldrums and am hoping that discussing studying will help me get into the study mode again.

Discussion questions:
1. Where are you relative to your original study plan?
2. What approach are you using to study? (Example, outlining material note by note versus filling in the holes on the syllabus topic by topic.)
3. Which study guide (if any) are you using? Do you like it?
4. Is Begin Work a real study guide or just a ruse to dupe people out of their money? (Have they actually shipped yet?)

While I'm taking 8F and not this one, my comments in my thread relating to 8F's BW might help someone considering what study manual to buy.

I started studying when I got back from March course 7. Due to a series of events beyond my control, I'm considerably behind my original schedule of being through all the material by August, but reasons for needing to meet that target no longer apply. Having seen how worthless Actex is from a previous sitting I was looking at alternative manuals along with the possibility of my own notes, but then Saint Actuarybert came along so it is now just a matter of annotating as necessary.
Good luck studying to all.

Just finished reading through the marketing stuff. can't really get motivated until C6 results come out. Hope I have enough time.

Anybody know of a good source of problems for this exam, besides the soa previous exams?

GadgetGeek - I too planned to be through all the material by August. Actuaryberts notes really take the pressure off, but I'm still going to try to get there.

I think most likely, I'll be through sections A-C twice by the end of July. (Once on my own, and once with her notes.) Then I will still have to get through D with her notes. They are good enough though, that I don't expect it to be difficult.

Does anyone out there think that Begin Work will ever ship?

Heck, I downloaded it and I'm not even taking 8I! It looked good.

Anyone out there have the Begin work manual? Any thoughts on how it compares to Actuarybert's study guide?

On one hand, I hate to give those guys any of my money seeing how long they took to get things out --- They told me in February that I could buy an advance copy in March. So much for that.

On the other hand, if it is better than Actuarybert's guide, I really want to pass and will take any help I can get.

BeginWork is pretty good. It's quite like JAM but a little more detailed. But because Actuarybert's Study Guide is so organized and detailed, I don't really find BW's detailed outline adding values. But I do find Actuarybert's Condensed Outline a little hard to memorize, I do plan to use BW to memorize. I'm not sure if this is a good strategy, though. I do find BW overpriced given that there is such a high quality study guide that's free! And I'm disappointed that it doesn't have practice questions. I thought I read it somewhere they will include some practice or sample questions/solutions. Hopefully there will be some in the second half manual they are still producing.

And I love Actuarybert's Study Guide so much. She summarized the book so well. I like it that she uses sentences that make sense even without the textbook by my side. Frankly speaking, I find the detailed outlines better than JAM! (No offence to JAM lovers! :shake: )

Is there a good source for 8I practice questions?
