View Full Version : How 2 Pass 140
Now that I got a 5 on Course 2, I had to change my name.
Does anyone have a copy of How 2 Pass 140, or any other Course 2 manual besides Actex or CSM which they want to sell?
I am so sick of this boring material that I at least need to see it presented in a slightly different way with possibly different problems.

You need how to pass course 2. It has the interest thoery plus micro, macro, and finance. I recommend it highly. It was all I used for finance and macro (well I used CSM to work problems). I made a 9.
Good Luck!!
Wow. Was that your first try?
Can you sell me yours?

Yes it was my first try. I would sell you mine but I let a coworker borrow it. My advice is to really concentrate on the interest portion of the exam. If you can make it to one of Bob Batten seminars then you will have a great chance of passing. Here is how I prepared:
1. Read the theory of interest and worked problems from CSM
2. Read the Price Theory book and worked problems from CSM
3. Went to NEAS seminar (econ. and finance waste of time at seminar)
4. Worked all of Batten's problems
5. Read HTP section on Finance and worked problems from CSM
6. Read HTP section on Macro and worked problems from CSM.
7. Made note cards for all necessary formulas and concepts (Batten tells you the formulas you must remember for i.t. & HTP clears lists the formulas for econ and finance)
Hope this helps!

Bama Gambler how many hours total did you log in for studying for Course 2?

I agree that HTP is very useful. I used it after I had gone over the material cause it tells you what areas to concentrate on and gives you tricks. I put in about 300 hours and I too got a 9.
Did you guys have any of this stuff in school?
Are we talking tricks for interest theory only or for Micro and Macro also?
Does any of you have a break down of the 2000 and 2001 Course 2 exams by topic? If you do, please let me know if you'll sell or are willing to share . . . It's my first time seeing any of this stuff.

i had almost all of the manuals for course 2 (actex, csm, asm, htp) and i thought the htp was the worst. the only way i could see using it was if you had studied everything already, the htp was good for summarizing some of the major points that you needed to know. i got an 8 on course 2 and it was my first sitting. i would highly recommend reading all the texts. personally i dont think there is any substitute for reading the actual textbooks. however i do know people who passed and did not read them. i also used the csm an awful lot constantly doing and redoing problems. i used the actex only for the interst theory portion of the exam. at the end of the interest theory manual they had 10 tests of 15 questions each that i felt were good practice. those questions along wiht the csm kept me real occupied for awhile. truthfully, i think that if you read the texts, and did a plethora of problems from the csm and actex (only interest theory) you can do just fine. that would be my advice.
I did. And still got a 5!

I studied around 250-300 hours. Depending on if you count seminar as study hours. I didn't read the finance book or the macro study note.

BTW, I took micro and macro in college but it was 4 yrs before I took course 2. And of course those classes were a joke compared to the exam level questions.
Also, I think HTP would be of great value to someone who made a 5 on the first go around.

I loved "HTP2". I read the whole thing and did every problem in it.
All right, I am going to trust you guys and buy HTP with my own $$, since I don't feel right asking for the company to buy me another manual.
That is, unless one of you is willing to sell me theirs????

If you made a 5 on it last time, then your company should have no problem buying you HTP. Tell your boss it will take you over the top. Good luck!!
Okay that sounds good. I'll try that. It can't hurt to see the material from anothers view.

When someone gets a 5 around here, we get pressured to spend company funds on seminars and more study manuals... etc.
I guess other companies frown on spending money to get better marks?
Well apparently my company doesn't succumb to that pressure because they won't get me a $100 HTP and this was my first time at 2 with absolutely no background in Fin, Mac, Micro.
Any opinions on this?
That's okay. I will pass anyway.
If anybody has a used copy and wants to sell it, let me know.
