Sat for 10 exams, 14 parts. (and not counting old 140 when I was clueless). 17 different sittings, sometimes taking more than one part.

Received 7 "Fail"'s - Got one 2, two 4's and four 5's.

14 "Passing scores", 10 of which were the good ol' CAS "P". Others were two 10's, one 8 and one 7.

Wow - this will require going back in the memory banks quite a ways. I will assume that if I passed a CAS Part without numerical result that I got a 6.

Parts Taken - 1,2,(3a,3b,3c),(4a,4b),(4a,5a),(5b,3c),7,6,9,8,8,1 0,new 8, new 8. That's 14 sittings I guess for a total of 13 5/6 exams (?).

Results - 10,8,(8,P,5),(5,P),(P,P),(P, 8 ),P,P,P,5,P,3,5,P. That's all 10 (counting the 1/2 and 1/3 parts) in 14 sittings. Not too bad - why the hell did it take so long then?

Average score - 6.11 (?)

Once you get your ASA or FSA and your Sect of Actuary in USA changes an exam like exam one is changed to exam 1a and exam 1b, do you have to go back and take the new exam to keep your ASA or FSA?

ASA and FSA are conferred based on what the rules were when you attained them.
Otherwise, there would be lots and lots of former ASA's after the 1995 rule change.

No, you don't need to take any exam to keep your credentials, though there are Continuing Education requirements.

No, you don't need to take any exam to keep your credentials, though there are Continuing Education requirements.CE is not required to keep your letters, only to use them.

My mother has to attend conferences to obtain CE credits. I love hearing the stories of who cheated with whom and who got drunk and all the other tabloid stories.
(My mother attends most conferences with her co-workers).

I'll continue wally's assumption of a CAS pass as being a 6. It certainly was never more than a 7.

Parts taken - 1,2,(3a,3B,3c),(4a,4b),(3B,4a),4a,(5a,5b),6,7,6,7, 8,7,8,7,9,10,new 7,new 8,new 8
That's 20 freakin' sittings. Jeez, that's a long time!

Results - 10,8,(6,5,6),(5,P),(P,5),P,(P,P),4,3,P,4,2,5,3,P,P ,3,P,4,P

That comes out to an average of 5.2. I'm the poster child for persistence. :)

CAS doesn't seem to have the transition problems as bad as the SOA. For example, here is what I have passed:

100, 110, 120, 121, 135, 140, 150, 151, 160, 200, 210, Course 6, EA-2A, EA-2B, and the Course 7 pre-test.

That's 15 exams passed in about 18 sittings (9 years), often multiple courses per sitting so many failures involved. The fun part is that I got 5's on 230, EA-1B, and EA-2 all in the final year that they were ever offered prior to a transition. No chance to pass those three failures.

So what do you get with 15 exams passed? An ASA, an EA pending Joint Board approval, and barely a start on FSA. My only regret is not starting at a younger age.

CAS doesn't seem to have the transition problems as bad as the SOA.

Are you serious? People for the CAS actually lost credit for exams, as if they had never taken them. If you had exams 1, 2, and all three parts of 3 before transition, you only received credit for new part 1 after transition! For the SOA, you got unassigned credits. Not great, but at least you still received credit!

My CAS exam history, for what it's worth.

1 (9), 2 (score of eight), 3c (7), fail 4B (0), 4B (P), 5B (P), 4A (P) [was unable to sit for 3A, lost credit for 4A at transition], [transition ...] 3 (10), 5 (P), 6 (P), 7 (P)

Ouch ... you would've volunteered to re-write 161 and 165 if they hadn't pulled the plug on them, right ?

I don't remember my scores for the early exams and since I'm CAS anyway, I'll just give number of sittings vs. passes.

I've sat for 17 sittings - was prepared for 14 of them.
Out of those, I've passed 12 times. Two to go!
