In my money league ($400), I was just involved in a major deal. Who do you think got the better of the deal:

Manny Ramirez and Juan Encarnacion

for

Troy Glaus, Ellis Burks and Kaz Ishii


Team receiving Manny and Juan is high in most pitching categories and has Livan Hernandez on the bench. Team is last in RBIs, 2nd to last in HRs and in the middle of the pack in avg, R and SBs.

Team receiving Ishii is last in all but 1 pitching category and has good hitting stats.

After I get a few responses, I will reveal which side I was on.

I choose Glaus, Burks & Ishii

I think this comes down to Ramirez vs Ishii. Without knowing the league rules hard to say how pitcher compares to hitter, but Ishii has to be consistant from first half, while Ramirez has to overcome injury and produce his normal (prior year) pace for the rest of the season. I believe Ishii will be closer to what is expected of him.

Except for age if this carries over to next season, Burks & Encarncion cancel each other out in my mind.

I am assuming bench is like calling up from the minors. Livian does not impress me. I see that drop off in pitching as greater than the drop off in hitting for the Ishii team (Glaus is capable of matching Ramirez for power over the rest of the year, though not average.

Juan gets more AB in Florida than Cincinnati, but with Floyd gone, he probably gets fewer Runs or RBI than Burks.

If Manny stays healthy he should get bigger numbers than Glaus as far as HR and RBI (if Nomar doesn't drive them in first).

Free pitching.

Bob would be happy if Bob gave up Manny and Juan.

Part of this depends on how close people are in the various categories (e.g. is "last" meaning 'deadlast, can't catch anyone', or "currently at the bottom, but within striking distance of the middle of the pack") If a category is all locked up in either direction, then that stat's value really doesn't matter.

[TAN] What will your league do if there is a strike? Just looking for good ideas to apply to a league I'm in....
