Don't mean to sound insensitive, but this (http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/07/21/tractor.accident.ap/index.html) situation is odd. I can just imagine her going out there to yell at him for getting on the tractor again when she startles him and his foot slips.....

"Holba got off the tractor but fell when he went to check on his wife, the patrol said. Holba, who usually requires assistance to walk, was unable to stand and crawled for 23 hours until he reached his residence and called for help shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday, troopers said.

The couple's son, Jim Holba, said his father crawled about 400 feet from the tractor to his home. "

23 hours to crawl 400 feet? Holy moly.....

That does indeed call for "What the heck was a 80 yrs old who can't walk doing driving a tractor?".

Several older tractor models had hand brakes and hand clutches. You don't need legs to drive them.

Was he on the road to see his old brother who's dying of cancer and he hadn't talked to in 40 years? I think I've seen that before... Maybe Lynch is filming the sequel.
