The utilitarian white ones that go under dress shirt, not ones worn as a fashion statement in their own right.

V-necks are prefect for non-tie biz-cas. That way, no one sees your t-shirt (which they'd otherwise focus on to the exclusion of everything else), yet, you have one on. Saves wear and tear (and washing) on the nice shirt, especially in the pits. BTW folks, pit stains, the permament kind, are bad.

In the winter I wear them, but it's too damned hot to wear more clothes this time of year.

Pit stains suggest that you're a hard worker. I also like how they coordinate with my brown shoes.

Outside yes. But they keep the office A/C on sub-arctic for some reason, so an extra layer is quite nice.

I'll be honest - the last thing I want to see at the office is one of male co-workers nipples.... :o Not to mention the fact those of you with hairy chests can completely gross us out with that big tuft sticking out from the top of your shirt. :shake:

Afterall, you wouldn't want me to come to the office without a bra on, would you? ;)

Fortunately for you jets fan, as I said earlier, it's always freezy cold in the office. So unacceptable or not, it does tend to happen.

Back on topic...I ALWAYS wear an undershirt to work (business casual, or business formal). Several of my male coworkers do not and some of the ladies have confided in me that they find it totally disgusting. So for those of you that don't wear em, people are noticing and are NOT happy.

Why do you think they keep it so cold in offices?

It goes with my philosophy...you can always put on another layer, but you can only get so naked. :D

simple solution, colored dress shirts=no undershirt.

Of course that's just practical. The real solution is to let actuaries out in the sun a little bit so that it isn't quite so blinding to let them wear t-shirts.

I think I saw that survey elsewhere... :)

I see three problems with this statement: ;)

1) What man wears a dress shirt tight enough to show anything? By the time I find the right neck and sleeve size, I have room to breathe.

2) Considering relative nip surface area, this should be considerably less of a problem for men. (Please, not another survey!!! )

3) Assuming that the comfortable fabric of an undershirt and bra are similar in composition, I have sufficient proof by example of bras that suggest an undershirt would not help hide the "wind-chill effect."

Exactly! What I want to know is why I must wear a noose under my collar on a dark shirt with coat and undershirt to hide my hair-clad chest from those who wear low-cut, sheer blouses to show off their non-hair clad chests? What dolt came up with this system, and why wasn't he thinking about comfort at the time?

:swear:

I give the dolt half credit. :D

Gee, who ever said you had to wear high-heeled shoes, panty hose, mascara, etc. Well, OK, I kinda like you to wear that stuff if going out on a date to a fancy restaurant (even though I don't think you need any makeup), but you really don't need it in the office environment. A nice pant-suit works quite well and is very professional. For men to be professional the noose is a must. :D

Maine-iac

Any place I ever worked where not wearing a tie would get funny looks for a guy, not wearing make-up would get women funny looks.

And a nice pant suit does not get you off the hook with the shoes and nylons. The shoes may be a little lower, and the nylons may be knee high instead of panty-hose, but it's not that much of an improvement. Definitely not on the level with guy shoes and socks.

Think about it. Occassionally, women will take up "the men's wear look". Ever seen guys take up "the women's wear look"? (Ducky's friend, excluded, of course. :D )

Wolverine

Are you meaning to imply that men's shoes and over-the-calf socks (the only kind that I have found don't drop to the ankle sometime during the day) are more comfortable than knee-highs and lower heeled shoes. I will trade you some day as long as Ducky isn't around. :D

Seriously though, I think we all put up with office fashion that just isn't necessary. I think you can dress professionally without being uncomfortable. I have seen women in dresses and men in suits that still didn't look professional and both men and women in b.c. dress that I wouldn't mind doing business with. I do think there needs to be standards though as there will always be some employees that will try to push the limit.

dude. ALWAYS wear a tee. end of story. not only is it cool (as in Fonzie cool; ayyyyyy) it keeps the deoderant off your shirt (ewwww) and the sweat (perspiration? ) off your shirt.
