A few may have noticed the forum a bit slower than normal the last few days. Most should have noticed no difference.

The problem lies with one of our providers. The server is connected directly to two backbones (UUNET and Group Telecom), and has backup feeds to two more. Most of the U.S. traffic will be coming in on the UUNET feed which is running fine. It appears that Group Telecom however is having a rough time the last few days. If you're coming in on the GT feed, you may have seen the slowdown. This would be dependent upon your connection to the internet. The local ISP that I use is through GT, so I've seen the slowdown myself.

GT is supposed to be Canada's largest backbone provider. Unfortunately I'm told that they're owned by Worldcom. This can't be good. I hope to discuss this with my ISP this evening, I'll let you know if there is a solution.

Aye Carumba! I didn't know that!

Guess I'll be looking to get some comforting assurances from my ISP this evening.

Reaaaaalllly sloooooooow for me today. Is it just me?

I'm talking "Ralph Wiggums doing vector calculus" slow. "DOI approving a rate increase" slow. "42 racing a tortoise" slow.

Not moving all that swiftly is the point I'm going for here.

"transient conditions on the internet"

Looks like UUNET is having some problems upstream of the server today. Nothing to be done by us mere mortals.

It started working fine minutes after my complaint post. I had mentally given you credit for fixing it, but I guess I'll have to revoke that citation of merit. Too bad, it had a nice gold foil edge and everything.

And I thought it was just me. One time, it took so long to submit a post that I got the "site not available" page. But it seems fine today.
