Absolutely. 5 and 6 are completely different. You don't need to know one without the other. The only pricing on 6 is reinsurance - not sure you need 5 to be able to pick it up.

The only ones that you might want to do in order for the essay exams are

6 before 7 because of Accounting
5 before 9 because 9 is Advanced Ratemaking

Other than that, you shouldn't have a problem.

i'd recommend it. JT said it well.

Definitely doable. I will say, however, that the readings for 6 make a little more sense in places after having read all the material for 5. That depends on your work experience though. 5 seemed to act as a good introduction to certain cencepts, such as retrospective rating and claims-made rating, that make some of their reserving counterparts easier to read. That said, 6 can definitely be successfully prepared for before 5.

I personnally did part 6 before part 5 on my first upper-level exam and passed. It's definately doable :)

Same here. Agree with everyone else.

If you've passed 1-4 and are going into a fall sitting, taking 6 makes vastly more sense than your other two options, which would be taking 9 or skipping a sitting. (Edit: Let's not even consider taking 6 and 9.)

On the other hand I failed exam 6 on my first attempt on an upper level exam. I then took 5 and just passed this session. This was more due to the fact that I work more with rate making rather than reserving. Six has very little overlap with 5, though, and what ever there is will help with 5 when you take it.
