Impressed with DMV

I just came back from renewing my driver's license. (I always knew study days were good for something!) I was gone all of 35 minutes - 15 minutes driving there, 5 minutes in the DMV, and 15 minutes back. I was so amazed. A quick digital picture, took a number, sat for 30 seconds, read an eye chart, signed my name and I don't have to go back for 8 years!

Where were all the lines? What happened to every driver's worst nightmare? I guess we'll have to find something else to complain about.

Sorry, I'm in NY, specifically, Long Island. We don't have short lines anywhere.

Didn't you hear about the terrorist threats at DMV's? W, you are so lucky?

Actually, the last time I went to renew my license (Maryland) last year, I was in and out in under 30 minutes. I went at the end of the day, about 3:30ish, on a Monday. I was guessing that many people don't like taking time off work and go in to get it done during the Saturday hours, which was why I went on Monday.

Bonnie: It has been a much better for years. I have used the one in Hempstead & Far Rockaway, both are quick in & outs now.

Hempstead is great because parking violations is next door, in case a little surprise gets in the way.

And people wonder why we hear about so many stories of old people having "pedal error."
