Before the Nov 2000 sitting, the SOA published a sample exam. I was just wondering if anyone has done the pension problems in that exam in order to compare results. Here is what I got:

Prob 7 (i) TNC=625,437
TAL=12,572,714
(ii) TNC=1,815,2000
TAL=0

Prob 17 (i) TNC=5,394
TAL=149,296
(ii)TNC=8,585
TAL=173,019

Is there any way to get the sample exam now? I can't find it on the SOA site.

If anyone is interested, I did find a solution for problem 7 and those are the correct answers. Still looking for the solution to #17 though.

The brilliant people at the SoA never produced a complete solution for the sample exam. They claimed that they didn't have the answers for all the questions.

Only the SoA can create questions with out answers or book and page reference or...

I don't even know what #17 is asking for. Can someone please explain to me how you use the PUC method and prorate benefits on accrued service vs. on total service until retirement. Is this even part of the syllabus???

I didn't get the same answer, probably because I interpreted the question differently.

My interpretation:

Br is limited to 35 years, while the retiree is projected to work for 40 years. The 2 ways that we're asked: Br divided evenly among 35 years OR among 40 years.

Well that's my guess.

I agree.

I reworked the problem the other day. After reviewing the question again, I think that your interpretation is correct. The only problem that I have is that Eve only has 5 years accrued. I really don't think that her retirement benefits are going to be accrued over 5 years.

Oh well, only one more day of crammin'!

Is there anyone out there with a solution to Sample Exam problem 17? Can anyone confirm Health Guy's answers?
