View Full Version : Daydreaming Anyone?

I have a hard time studying lately. When I open the book, I start thinking about my next trip, what's for dinner, or what I should write for my webpages. In short, I think about anything but what's in front of me. Does anyone experience this? This is my third time studying for this exam, and I'm sick of the material. What would you do in this case?

This has definitely happened to me and lately more often than not. I am taking my exam for the first time and can't seem to get into studying.

As far as taking an exam for the 3rd time and studying, that happed to me when I was taking an exam that I got a 5 on previously. I found that I really did know the material and didn't really need to study anymore. I just had to have a little more luck the next sitting, which I did and passed. I don't think that I knew the material any better though, just was luckier. I would think that most people who are sitting for any exam multiple times would be in a similar situation in which they really do know the material and are just frustrated that they can't pass. Are you reading the material again and thinking that you already know this stuff? Maybe you just need to relax a little now and when it gets really close to the exam do old exam questions over and over. Forget about reading the material again because you probably already did that for two sittings and know it pretty well.

what's worse? sitting with the books open and daydreaming, or not opening them in the first place?

I'm daydreaming a lot, too for this sitting. I don't really feel like studying this sitting (more than most sittings!). I hate summer studying.

My summer studying daydreams are usually what I have to do in the yard, or about things going on at work (good and bad). If I'm playing golf later that day, I'll daydream about what I'm going to hit off the tee on every hole.

If the CAS decides to include on the Part 9 exam questions about my backyard or about playing golf, I'll ace the thing! 8) Unfortunately, my daydreaming will probably result in a double-bogey.

double bogey on a par 4 is a pass!

What would you do in this case?

I would study in half-hour blocks. Or get up and take a break the minute I started to daydream. It helped me stay very productive and all my counted-time was really solid, but it was very inefficient (e.g., it took 4 hours to study 2 hours).

When I was totally sick of the material, I would remind myself that I didn't want to have to look at it yet again next year.

Better now that summer is almost officially over...everyone is back to school and work, and so are we...
SIGH! It sucks when you didn't study as much as you should have in the summer...you're left picking up the slack now...

Yeah and with the exams being earlier in November than they were before the 2000 conversion, by the time summer ends there is only a month left.

November ? Don't you mean October for some of us ? Boo!

Oh yeah that's true. I was only thinking about myself. That's just way too early. The SOA should have an even 6 months between May and November exams.

I was able to convince the SOA to true up my grade from a 5.48 to a 5.51 last Fall, pro-rating for the uneven time periods so I'll be trying that again this year. :)

I have a terrible time trying to concentrate on part 6 stuff AGAIN. It is easier to read new material than to go over the same old stuff.

You wouldn't say that if you were taking Part 9.

I'm hurting with the October exam, too. Didn't study as much as I should have in the summer. I hate summer studying! It's going to be a rough next six weeks! Then it's winter and the weather will suck again! :(

I am reading Cass Chapter 9, 10, and 11 for the third time. My strategy for the more difficult reading is to read it just before the test. Otherwise I'll not remember how to do the calculations.

For part 6, how many of you have memorized the Stanard methods, the Hayne calculations, the Siewert Agg. procedure, the Clark methods, Johnson's procedure??? I'll review them the 3rd week of October.

The more common methods like Fisher-Lange, Born.-Ferg, McClenahan, Berry, Adler-Kline, Resony, Kittel I have learned in the past and I don't need last minute review as much.

Enough daydreaming, back to study. Is anybody out there?
