View Full Version : PD for FSA - question

I have 1-7 but not 8 (just 8P). I also have EA-2A and all three CFA exams (which apparently give me enough exam related PD units to just do a project).
Can I get my PD now to get out of one of the new FSA exams (should I not pass course 8)? Do I need to get 8 now to get the PD?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is you must have all required courses (i.e. 1-8) in order to submit a PD plan for FSA.

I just found out recently that if you have any PD credits from the pre-2000 exam system, you can submit your Initial PD plan as early as 1/1/2006 even if you do not have Exams 1-8 under your belt. I also found out that anybody can get up to 15 PD credits (ignoring any pre-existing PD credits from the pre-2000 exam system) for a certain time frame before submitting the Initial PD plan. I plan on going to a seminar Aug. 29-30 to earn 9 PD credits, increasing my PD credits from 5 to 14! I just got my ASA a few weeks ago, and it feels nice that I'm already taking baby steps toward my FSA.

I would contact the SOA and see if they would allow you to do PD for ASA.

Your 25 CFA credits should qualify you. The only thing strange is that you already have your ASA. I think you would have to do the project plus 10 credits or the project plus also pass EA-2B. I think you only get the credits for the EA if you have both of those.
According to what I have read PD for ASA and FSA both transfer to CSP. Then all you would need is 8 or DP and you are finished, according to the rules of the new system.

If you only have PD, you get Exam DP. If you only have Course 8, you get Exam DP. If you have both Course 8 and PD, you get Exams DP & CSP.

This I get - what loses me is the possibility that I may not be allowed to get my PD without 1-8 (despite the fact that those who have not even attained ASA may be allowed to get their credit for it). I will make a formal inquiry and let you all know.
Thanks for the feedback.
btw - CFA question - there must be a million threads about this but put at least 150 hours into Level 1 and don't try to master everything but cover everything. The exams are no joke but you need to put the time in for sure.
