If my memory serves me correctly, the 6th and 7th edition of the Ross book are the same as it relates to the Course 3 exam. Don't quote me; there may be some older threads on this.

While 6th and 7th editions of Probability Models are almost identical in the sections on Course 3, Bowers edition #1 would be a terrible choice for anyone preparing for Course 3. It uses commutation functions a lot, which have been totally removed from edition 2 and Course 3. It uses some different terminology (e.g., "net premiums" in edition 1 have become "benefit premiums" in edition 2 and Course 3). Some of its notation is different (especially indexing of force of mortality) from edition 2 and Course 3. There is also some new material in edition 2 that is on the Course 3 syllabus (especially in chapter 9 on joint lives).

I totally agree with the site supporter, unless you want to do what I do and keep the 1st edition of Actuarial Mathematics at the office and have the second edition at home so as to not lug that very big, heavy book everywhere. I suppose I could also borrow AM at the office, but the library copies are rather beat up. For most topics the 1st and 2nd ed of AM are similar enough not to cause any problems, but do ignore all the Dx if tou are looking at 1st ed.
It uses commutation functions a lot, which have been totally removed from edition 2 and Course 3.
But is used in Course 5 :)
